CMF has made a name for itself with colourful gadgets and quirky designs, and its first Bluetooth speakers are doing “Nothing” different. The new Speaker M and Speaker S look like milk cartons, complete with oversized knobs, carry handles, and bright colours. But there’s more to them than their unusual looks, with both speakers offering IP68 dust and water resistance, customisable panels, and up to 18 hours of battery life.
The CMF Speaker S is the smaller of the two, measuring 130.5 x 85 x 44 mm and weighing 334 gms. It uses a 45 mm full-range driver and two passive radiators to reinforce bass, with an output of 10W RMS. Its compact size should make it a better fit for desks, bedrooms, and casual listening on the go.
The Speaker M is larger at 220 x 85 x 54 mm and weighs 602 gms. It packs a 70 mm woofer and a 16 mm tweeter, delivering 35W RMS output. The dedicated drivers should give it more room to handle bass and higher frequencies, making it the more suitable option for filling a living room or providing music at a small gathering.
Both speakers promise up to 18 hours of playback at 50 percent volume with Ultra Bass enabled. A 10-minute charge provides up to an hour of listening, while a full charge takes three hours on the Speaker M and 2.5 hours on the Speaker S.
The shared features include Bluetooth 6.0, NFC tap-to-pair, USB-C audio playback, and dual-device connectivity. Users can pair two identical speakers for stereo sound or use Auracast-based Party Mode to synchronise compatible speakers for simultaneous playback. Both also offer custom EQ settings, Wide Soundstage mode, and Night Mode, which limits maximum loudness to around 60 percent of Standard Mode.
The milk-carton look is not just for show. Both speakers have removable front panels and knobs, letting owners change their appearance. CMF also provides a guide for 3D-printing replacement panels and knobs, which is a nice touch for people who like customising their gadgets. The speakers come in white, dark grey, orange, and turquoise.
CMF and its parent Nothing have been doing this for a while now – make products that stand out visually. The design could appeal to younger buyers, students, and anyone who wants a speaker to double as a desk accessory rather than blend into the background.
The CMF Speaker S costs USD 59 (around Rs 5,600), while the Speaker M is priced at USD 109 (around Rs 10,400). Both are available through Nothing’s website and select retail partners. India pricing and availability haven’t been announced.
The Speaker S looks like the more practical pick for personal listening and portability, while the Speaker M’s higher output should suit people who want to play music in larger spaces. Both will compete with portable speakers from JBL and other brands, where sound quality and battery performance matter as much as design.
