The OnePlus 12R (review) was launched recently for Rs 39,999. The latest affordable flagship by OnePlus features an improved chipset, a better battery capacity, and some new software features to provide efficient performance while minimising power loss. We will thus test the phone’s battery performance claims and compare it with its predecessor, the OnePlus 11R (review), to see whether it is indeed an upgrade.

4K video recording
We begin the battery comparison with both smartphones at 100 percent capacity and set them to record 4K videos at 60FPS for 30 minutes each. In the video test, the OnePlus 12R recorded a 6 percent decrease, while the 11R registered an 11 percent drop. The OnePlus 12R emerges as the victor in this test.

Next up is the video streaming test. We played YouTube videos at a 4K resolution for 30 minutes on both smartphones. Both devices were set to their maximum brightness levels manually before streaming. Both smartphones registered a battery drain of 5 percent during the 4K video streaming test, hence it’s a tie.

BGMI test
The final test on the list is the gaming test with BGMI. We set the game to Ultra HDR resolution and Ultra frame rate settings on both devices before playing the game for a total of 30 minutes. At the end of the gaming session, the OnePlus 12R experienced a drain of 6 percent while the 11R dropped 7 percent. The OnePlus 12R marginally takes the lead in this test.

Charging speed
Both the OnePlus 12R and 11R support 100W SUPERVOOC fast charging, which can juice up the phones from 0 to 100 percent in roughly 30 minutes. This is particularly impressive on the OnePlus 12R as it gets a bigger 5,500mAh battery. The charging times are similar on both devices and thus it’s a tie.

Screen-on time and standby
Lastly, let’s discuss the screen-on time for both smartphones. The OnePlus 12R and 11R offer comparable screen-on time with moderate to heavy usage, averaging around 6-7 hours. However, the OnePlus 12R has a terrific standby time while the OnePlus 11R tends to lose battery quicker when left idle.

Verdict
From the results, the OnePlus 12R exceeds the OnePlus 11R when it comes to battery performance, which is an expected result. The OnePlus 12R features a 5,500mAh battery compared to the 5,000mAh battery on the OnePlus 11R. The new OnePlus device beats its predecessor in terms of standby performance and more efficient battery drain during 4K video recording and gaming. Despite the results, the OnePlus 11R performed well considering its smaller battery capacity and older software. The OnePlus 12R represents an upgrade to the OnePlus 11R in all major aspects and is priced at Rs 39,999, making it an easy recommendation under Rs 40,000.
