OnePlus 12R vs OnePlus 11R performance comparison: how much has changed?

The OnePlus 12R (review) brings a bunch of upgrades across the board to make it a worthy successor to the OnePlus 11R (review). In addition to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, the OnePlus 12R also gets a terrific display with high brightness levels and a bigger battery unit that translates to impressive battery backup in day-to-day usage. On top of that, OnePlus has maintained the sub-Rs 40,000 price tag. But when it comes to performance, how much faster and more powerful is the OnePlus 12R compared to the OnePlus 11R? We ran the two through a bunch of benchmarks and gaming tests to figure that out.

Geekbench v6

Starting with Geekbench, we see that the OnePlus 12R’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 records significantly higher single-core and multi-core scores compared to the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1-powered OnePlus 11R, as expected. This means the OnePlus 12R should be able to handle intense workloads better than its predecessor.

AnTuTu

The AnTuTu test is no different. The OnePlus 12R scores around 377,000 more than the OnePlus 11R, scoring higher across the board, including CPU, GPU, and UX tests. Again, what this tells us is that you can expect improved day-to-day as well as gaming performance with the OnePlus 12R thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor.

CPU Throttle

OnePlus 12R once again performed slightly better than the OnePlus 11R in our CPU Throttle test. A 30-minute test running 50 threads showed the OnePlus 12R maintaining 83 percent of peak performance whereas the OnePlus 11R was marginally lower at 79 percent. Back when we reviewed the OnePlus 11R last year, its CPU throttled to 70 percent of its max performance, so the device has improved since then likely with the help of OTA updates over the months.

Gaming

Both OnePlus devices are big on performance and are extremely capable of running popular mobile games like BGMI on high graphics without really breaking a sweat. With the OnePlus 12R, you might notice smoother animations and fewer frame drops compared thanks to a slightly better Adreno 740 GPU at the core, but the differences in gaming performance between the two devices won’t be very obvious.

Verdict

  • It’s clear from the Geekbench and AnTuTu platforms that the OnePlus 12R’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 delivers expectedly better results. It’s a newer processor in comparison to the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and is expected to last slightly longer in terms of delivering consistent performance over the next few years.
  • Additionally, since the OnePlus 12R ships with Android 14 out of the box and is expected to get up to Android 17 at least, one expects the phone to deliver better software performance three years down the line, which can’t be said with certainty when it comes to the OnePlus 11R.
  • Not only does the OnePlus 12R offer smooth performance during daily workloads, but it also brings improvements in other areas such as the battery life (offering a day and a half on a single charge) and a brighter display (up to 4500 nits peak brightness) when compared to the OnePlus 11R. And if these areas are important to you, then the OnePlus 12R is definitely worth buying/upgrading to.
  • That said, the cameras remain largely the same on both models and if you’re looking to upgrade from the OnePlus 11R to a phone with better cameras, the OnePlus 12R is not it.
