OnePlus is having a packed end to the year. After preponing the global launch of its flagship number series from the regular January window to November, the company has now also announced the debut of its next sub-flagship from the ‘R’ series before the year ends. The OnePlus 15R will launch in India, Europe and North America on December 17th as the value-focused sibling of the OnePlus 15. Joining it will be the OnePlus Pad Go 2, the successor to 2023’s OnePlus Pad Go.
OnePlus has also confirmed the 15R colour options for India – Charcoal Black and Minty Green. The company additionally states the phone would be IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K rated. That hints at a durable value flagship, protected not just against dust and splashes but also high-pressure and high-temperature water jets.
Although specs are not entirely official yet, all signs point to the 15R being the global version of the OnePlus Ace 6T, which just launched in China. If that is true, the OnePlus 15R could pack the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset (which releases tomorrow), and a dual rear camera setup.
The Ace 6T has a 50MP main and 8MP ultra-wide camera, so photography fans may spot a compromise here, especially considering the OnePlus 13R shipped with a telephoto lens. For buyers who prioritise performance and battery, the OnePlus 15R may come bearing great news. The Ace 6T claims to offer the longest battery life among current Snapdragon flagships with its massive 8,000mAh that supports 100W fast charging. This is one of the larger and more meaningful upgrades that may come on the OnePlus 15R. The speed is slightly slower than the 120W on the OnePlus 15, but still among the fastest in the category. For context, the OnePlus 13R came with a 6,000mAh battery that supported 80W fast charging.
If the 8,000mAh battery comes to India, not only would it lead in its class but would also leave behind all the flagships from OPPO, iQOO and the likes, who have all debuted with upgraded battery sizes north of 7,000mAh this year.
The OnePlus 15R could appeal to those who are looking for a well-rounded value flagship that is more focussed on gaming and endurance, rather than photography. Comparing across generations, the 15R looks like a performance upgrade over the 13R, trading camera versatility for endurance and gaming. OnePlus’ strategy with the R-series is pretty straightforward: flagship-grade performance without flagship pricing, and the success of that was seen in the popularity of the predecessor. If the company brings the same Ace 6T specifications to the 15R, it could be one of the most well-rounded Android upgrades of 2025 for gamers, heavy multitaskers, and long battery life seekers.
