Amid all the noise around OnePlus’s global restructuring and reports of a possible India exit in 2027, the company has quietly dropped a more forward-looking signal: a new tablet is on the way later this year. In an interaction with 91mobiles, Varun Jha, Head, IoT Business, OnePlus India, laid out where the brand’s tablet portfolio is headed, and in doing so, offered a rare glimpse of a company still actively planning its India roadmap rather than winding one down.
A new tablet is coming, and it’s not the only news
When asked about OnePlus’s tablet roadmap, Jha walked through how the company has built out its lineup across price segments over the past two years, from the sub-Rs 20,000 Pad Lite to the flagship Pad 4 powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform. But the more interesting line came toward the end of his answer: OnePlus has “exciting plans for our tablet portfolio later this year,” Jha said, adding that he’s looking forward to sharing more when the time is right.
That’s as close as Jha could get to a product tease without divulging more details. In the nearer term, Jha also confirmed the OnePlus Pad 4 Smart Keyboard will launch in India in the coming weeks.

Varun Jha, for those unaware, has been with OnePlus India for the past six years and has been involved in several key projects, including the OnePlus Nord 5 Series. He also presented the keynote for the OnePlus Pad Go 2 launch in December 2025.
On how OnePlus plans to improve its software support experience for tablets
I asked Jha whether OnePlus plans to extend its software support policy for tablets, especially with prices climbing and buyers likely to hold onto devices longer. His answer leaned on the company’s broader software consolidation rather than a new tablet-specific commitment. OnePlus recently announced the next phase of its software journey, under which eligible devices will get the option to update to the latest version of ColorOS later this year, a move Jha said would streamline development and improve update delivery by pooling engineering resources.
On specifics, Jha confirmed the OnePlus Pad 4 comes with three years of Android OS updates and six years of security updates, but stopped short of announcing anything beyond that for future tablets, saying the company is “continuously evaluating ways to enhance the ownership experience based on user feedback.”
No mini tablet, but bigger screens and productivity are the focus
On whether OnePlus might introduce a smaller form factor akin to the iPad mini, Jha didn’t confirm or deny anything specific, but his answer pointed in the opposite direction. He said OnePlus is seeing users place more value on larger displays as tablets shift from content consumption toward productivity, note-taking, multitasking, and creative work, and that the brand’s product decisions will continue to follow that trend rather than chase a smaller form factor.
Building out the cross-device ecosystem
Jha also detailed how OnePlus is trying to tie its tablets more closely to the rest of its device lineup. This includes O+ Connect for file sharing across Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS, along with screen mirroring, content sync, and app relay between phone and tablet. The Pad 4 specifically supports Desktop Control for operating a PC directly from the tablet, a Mac and Windows Keyboard Mode for the Smart Keyboard, and a Tap & Transfer feature for quick file sharing.
The near future looks positive for OnePlus India
Jha pointed to some concrete growth figures to back up OnePlus’s tablet strategy. Citing preliminary data from CyberMedia Research, he said OnePlus’s tablet business grew 23 percent year-on-year in H1 2026, and that the brand was the fastest-growing Android tablet brand on Amazon.in over the same period.
None of this exists in a vacuum. Just weeks ago, a Bloomberg report suggested OnePlus was preparing to exit the US and Europe, with an India exit reportedly being considered for some time in 2027. OnePlus has since confirmed the North America and Europe exit to US publications, while OnePlus India told us directly that its India operations continue “as usual, with all local operations on track.” Since then, OnePlus has launched a budget smartphone in the form of the OnePlus N6x.
Whether that fully settles the question of what happens in 2027 is still unclear, and we’ve said as much before. But a company actively teasing a new tablet, confirming an accessory launch in the coming weeks, and citing fresh market share gains in India isn’t the picture of a business quietly preparing to leave. For now, at least, OnePlus’s actions in India appear to back up its words.
