OnePlus 15R tipped to start at a higher price than OnePlus 13R

Highlights
  • The OnePlus 15R is rumoured to get a price hike, much like almost all phones this season.
  • The phone is debuting the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor.
  • The OnePlus 15R has similar specifications as the OnePlus 15.

After launching the flagship OnePlus 15 a few weeks ago, OnePlus is all set for their next major phone debut in India. The OnePlus 15R is launching on December 17th in India and could start off at a higher price compared to its predecessor, as per a tipster.

According to tipster Paras Guglani, the OnePlus 15R could be announced at a starting price of around Rs 47,000 to Rs 49,000 in India for the 12GB + 256GB model. A higher variant with 12GB and 512GB storage will also be available in the country, with a rumoured price tag upward of Rs 52,000. These tipped prices do not include any bank discounts, so users might be able to get s Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 discount on the phone.

The leak reflects an increment over the price of the OnePlus 13R, which launched in India at Rs 42,999 in January. The spike could be justified as it’s pretty much in line with market trends. Increased production costs due to more expensive memory components have forced companies to make necessary adjustments in their pricing structures in both flagship and mid-segment offerings.

The OnePlus 15R, launching alongside the OnePlus Pad Go 2 this week, is rumoured to be a global model of the OnePlus Ace 6T, which launched in China last month. OnePlus announced that the 15R will come with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, which will make it the first globally available smartphone to be running on Qualcomm’s latest sub-flagship processor. The company has stated that they have been collaborating with Qualcomm for nearly two years to make this processor better in performance, thermal efficiency, and power consumption.

In terms of display, the OnePlus 15R will come with a 6.83-inch FHD+ OLED display with a refresh rate of 165Hz. This would be one of the most fluid displays in the segment, which will make it an excellent option for gamers. Battery life too appears to be an area where the phone should perform well. A giant 7,400mAh battery has been confirmed by the company. This is much larger than the 6,000mAh cell on the OnePlus 13R and marginally bigger than OnePlus 15’s 7,300mAh Silicon NanoStack battery, and definitely the largest in its segment by a mile. The device will come with support for 80W fast charging.

Confirmed camera specifications include a 32MP front camera and 4K video recording. The rear camera dual setup could include a 50MP primary sensor with optical image stabilisation and an 8MP ultra-wide camera. A durable frame is also expected with an IP rating of up to IP69K, which we also saw on the OnePlus 15.

The price hike, if true, shouldn’t bother buyers too much as the latest entries by Vivo, iQOO, Realme, and OPPO have all launched with a higher price tag than before. The OnePlus 15R is tailored for those buyers wanting flagship-grade performance without crossing the Rs 60,000-mark. Despite the rumoured price hike, it could be a compelling buy for gamers and performance chasers with its big battery, Snapdragon chipset and fluid display. Launch offers could make the deal sweet, so buyers should keep an eye on them when OnePlus announces the phone on December 17th.
