With the OnePlus 16 making its debut in China, talks around its global launch have been gaining steam. There have been leaks about the OnePlus 16 India launch too, with some saying it won’t debut here while others contradict it. It has now been reported that OnePlus has begun testing global and Indian variants of the OnePlus 16, with three model numbers spotted online.
Tipster Abhishek Yadav has shared on X that OnePlus is currently testing OnePlus 16 global/Indian variant software with three model numbers: CPH2901, CPH2903, and CPH2905. While this doesn’t officially confirm the OnePlus 16’s global or India launch, it does add to the speculation that the flagship might come here.
The tipster added that it has also spotted another OnePlus model with the model CPH2887 and PHYP110 in the high refresh gaming list, which indicates that the handset supports 185Hz in games. This model number is said to belong to the OnePlus 16R, but it’s not the same device as the OnePlus Ace 7 or Ace 7 Pro. It’s speculated that the OnePlus 16R will launch with the same hardware as the Ace 7 series.
OnePlus has yet to officially confirm whether the OnePlus 16 or 16R is launching outside China, more importantly, in India, where it’s still operating at full scale. There have been conflicting reports regarding the launch amid the smartphone industry raising prices and OnePlus shutting down operations in key global markets. However, it seems like we will be getting a OnePlus flagship, at least one of them.
OnePlus 16 is yet another powerful flagship, which would make good sense for the handset to arrive in India. It comes with the latest and fastest Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, promising significant improvements in performance and gaming. It has a new 200MP main camera over the OnePlus 15’s 50MP sensor, while the front camera has been upgraded from 32MP to 50MP, which means that we can expect a much better camera experience. The new OnePlus flagship also carries a massive 9,000mAh battery with 100W fast charging support, which should comfortably deliver multi-day usage. Lastly, you get a 185Hz display on the OnePlus 16, the only flagship with this feature.
Since there’s no concrete information yet, it would be best to wait for more details if you are very keen on buying the OnePlus 16. If you own a OnePlus 13 or older, waiting might be worthwhile for these specific improvements, but if you have a OnePlus 15, the upgrade might not be as significant.
