OnePlus appears to be preparing a substantial upgrade to its Turbo series, with its next-generation model tipped to move to Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship chipset. According to Weibo tipster Smart Pikachu, the OnePlus Turbo 7 is being considered for an early launch with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6, which is still undergoing development. The phone is also expected to bring a 200MP primary camera and a fast display, marking a step up from its predecessor. It could launch globally as the OnePlus 16R.

OnePlus Turbo 7 specifications tipped

Smart Pikachu claims that the OnePlus Turbo 7 will feature a 200MP main camera, a glass back and a display with a refresh rate of up to 185Hz in China. The global version could get a slightly lower 165Hz refresh rate. The phone will reportedly skip a periscope telephoto camera, suggesting that OnePlus will continue prioritising performance and gaming over advanced zoom photography.

The tipster hasn’t revealed the battery capacity, charging speeds or display size. It’s also unclear whether the leak refers to the standard Turbo 7 or a Pro variant. However, it follows an earlier Digital Chat Station leak about a Turbo Pro with a 6.78-inch 1.5K 185Hz display, a 200MP main camera and a battery of at least 9,000mAh. Both reports could be referring to the same device, although this remains unconfirmed.

For context, the OnePlus Turbo 6 launched in China in January with a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset, a 6.78-inch 165Hz display, a 50MP main camera and a 9,000mAh battery. The Turbo 7 could bring upgrades across its chipset, camera and display, although its battery capacity remains unknown.

The OnePlus Turbo 7 could face competition from the iQOO Z12 Turbo, which is also tipped to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 and could debut globally as the iQOO 16R. Its engineering sample reportedly features a 6.59-inch display with a high refresh rate, a battery of around 10,000mAh and a built-in cooling fan under evaluation. Its predecessor, the iQOO Z11 Turbo, has a 7,500mAh battery and a 144Hz display, and came to India as the iQOO 15R.

The two phones could appeal to gamers and power users looking for flagship-grade performance without paying flagship prices. While OnePlus appears to be emphasising camera resolution and display refresh rate, iQOO could have an advantage in battery capacity and cooling.

The Turbo 7 is tipped to launch in China before the end of 2026. Its possible global version could arrive as the OnePlus 16R, although neither the international branding nor availability has been confirmed. Buyers interested in either phone should wait for the final specifications, particularly battery capacity and pricing, before deciding between the two.
