OnePlus may have made some headlines recently with rumours surrounding its possible shutdown. But now that that’s cleared, we can focus on its next flagship, the OnePlus 16. Yes, there’s still ample time, and the OnePlus 15 is its current flagship, but that’s not stopping leaks from spreading about the OnePlus 16. And for good reason, as the handset might be OnePlus’s most ambitious flagship yet, with staggering numbers for all key hardware.
The latest set of specs rumoured for the OnePlus 16 comes from Android Headlines, citing OnePlus Club as the source. Starting with the display, the OnePlus 16 is said to feature a 1.5K OLED BOE X5 panel with a 240Hz refresh rate. That’s a steep upgrade from the 144Hz display on the OnePlus 15, suggesting better gaming graphics and smoother gameplay. Under the hood will run Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, which will also debut later in the year as the OnePlus 16. The ‘Pro’ name, though, suggests it may be an even faster version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, which is also expected to debut as the standard flagship chipset for future Android phones.
Cameras are also set to get a major upgrade with possibly two 200MP cameras. The 200MP main camera will use a new sensor, possibly the Samsung ISOCELL HP5 sensor, while the periscope telephoto camera could also be a 200MP sensor. OnePlus 16 is also tipped to feature a new ultra-wide camera. OnePlus did make some cutbacks on the cameras for the 15, although its performance was still pretty good, but it might make better amends with the 16.
A 9,000mAh battery is also tipped for the OnePlus 16, and this has been rumoured previously, too. That number might not seem too surprising, as we even have 10,000mAh battery phones in India now. But for a flagship phone, it would be a big boost for the OnePlus 16. More so for its 120W wired and 50W wireless charging support, giving the handset one of the best battery setups you can find on a flagship phone.
More details leaked about the OnePlus 16 include LPDDR6 RAM with UFS 4.1 flash storage, dual coaxial speakers and the O916T vibration motor, all improvements over the OnePlus 16.
OnePlus is aiming high with its next flagship. That said, these details are based on leaks, and the specifications could still change as the launch gets closer. Even so, the information points to a possible direction for the OnePlus 16, with an emphasis on large numbers across key areas. If these specs hold, the phone could sit at the top of the segment in terms of display, gaming, performance, battery life, and cameras. However, rival flagships are also expected to raise the bar in these areas.
OnePlus appears increasingly focused on strengthening its presence in the premium flagship segment with its upcoming launch. The OnePlus 16 could be positioned higher alongside Samsung and Apple’s flagships, signalling a clearer shift in the brand’s long-term strategy. With competition in the flagship space expected to intensify later this year, buyers who can afford to wait may want to keep an eye on the OnePlus 16.
