OnePlus Ace 6T becomes the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 phone, launches in China with 8,300mAh battery
After making its key specifications official, the OnePlus Ace 6T has finally launched in China. It’s the first phone with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, and also the first OnePlus handset to house a mammoth 8,300mAh battery. Like the flagship OnePlus 15, the Ace 6T is also performance-focused with up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM, an all-new Glacier Cooling System, and gaming enhancements. OnePlus is bringing the Ace 6T outside China and in markets like India as the OnePlus 15R. It’s launching here in India on December 17th, but possibly with a few changes in terms of specs.
OnePlus Ace 6T in China has been launched at CNY 2,599 (Rs 33,000 approx) for the base model with 12GB RAM + 256GB storage. It comes in three more variants with up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, going up to CNY 3,699 (Rs 47,000 approx). You can expect the OnePlus 15R to cost more in India as the ‘R’ series models are usually priced around Rs 42,999. This time, though, there could be a price hike as all new premium phones, including the OnePlus 15, have been launched at higher prices.

The highlight of the new OnePlus phone is its massive 8,300mAh battery, which should comfortably last over a day, and possibly stretch to two days. This is paired with 100W wired SuperVOOC fast charging support. This is the biggest-ever battery capacity offered by a OnePlus phone, implying the brand’s focus on delivering a power-packed device. You also get the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 on the OnePlus Ace 6T. This is a new chipset by Qualcomm, and one that is based on the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
OnePlus Ace 6T also features a new Swift Gaming Engine, which is designed to easily handle ultra-high-frame-rate 165fps gaming. It’s also equipped with an all-new Glacier Cooling System on the Ace 6T with top-tier thermal materials in the industry and a maxed-out cooling area, the largest in OnePlus history. The Ace 6T is claimed to handle long hours of gaming with no frame drops or heating issues.
Up front, you get a 6.83-inch FHD+ (1,272×2,800 pixels) AMOLED display with up to 165Hz refresh rate, and up to 1,800 nits of peak brightness. On the software front, it runs Android 16-based ColorOS 16. In India, the 15R would launch with OxygenOS 16 out of the box. The smartphone is also highly durable with IP66 + IP68 + IP69 + IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance.
One area where OnePlus seems to have made a compromise is the camera, since the Ace 6T misses out on a telephoto lens. You get a 50MP primary camera and an 8MP ultra-wide camera. If we had to make a comparison with the 15R and 13R, it’s a downgrade as there’s no telephoto lens, which helps with distant zoom shots and portraits. For selfies, you get a 16MP front camera. While the OnePlus Ace 6T does offer a lot for gaming and performance, it may not appeal to photography enthusiasts or anyone who wants a versatile camera setup.
Since the OnePlus Ace 6T is expected to launch in India as the 15R, major upgrades over its predecessor are likely, particularly in performance and gaming. The cameras might fall short, but the phone is still worth waiting for if you want a flagship-level experience without the premium price.
