Pros

  • Nice design & gorgeous display
  • Capable cameras
  • Smooth performance
  • Good battery life, fast charging

Cons

  • Not available in India

OPPO's flagship Find X series of smartphones isn't available in India, and its latest, the Find X6 Pro, doesn't do anything to change the status quo. This is unfortunate since the Find X6 Po is a solid device. Loaded in all respects, the two most standout features of the device, at least as per me, are its design and cameras. In fact, as per the brand, the Find X6 Pro marks the shift from the ‘main camera' era to the ‘three main camera' era, emphasising how all three rear shooters are equally capable. I recently got a chance to play with the premium handset and have it accompany me on a trip. And as you're about to find out, I came back quite impressed.

Verdict

The OPPO Find X6 Pro delivers on most aspects of smartphone usage, including core parameters like performance, display, battery life and charging speeds. It shines in the design and photography departments though. OPPO hasn't launched the phone in India officially, which is disappointing since if it had, the device would have given other premium flagships a run for their money.

Specifications and features

Let's take a gander at some of its key specs and features before I dive into the specifics of the design and give you some insights into that powerful set of cameras.

Design

As I mentioned before, design is one of the aspects that stands out for me. Maybe I feel so because I had the brown unit with me, featuring a dual-tone vegan leather finish. That, combined with the massive camera module on the rear, complete with a ridged stainless steel bezel around that circular island, gives it a very classic look which is more camera than phone. Despite everything, the phone is quite sleek, and the curved screen at front add to the ensemble too. Within a few seconds of holding it and checking it out closely, it becomes clear OPPO has paid special attention to the design and build, ensuring the Find X6 Pro exudes class. The IP68 rating, the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on the lens and the display, the aluminium frame, and that premium leather finish, all blend together seamlessly to make sure the handset grabs eyeballs no matter where you take it.

Cameras

Judging by the camera specs alone, it's clear from the get-go that this phone is serious about photography. For the camera system on the Find X6 Pro, OPPO has ensured each sensor gets its own individual identity, instead of the secondary and tertiary sensors hiding behind the shadow of the primary shooter, as is the case with most phones. Granted, this might be a bit of a marketing gimmick, but the results speak for themselves.

The shooting modes on offer include the usual photo, video, and portrait, along with a super-powerful Pro mode. Dive into ‘More' and you'll see other goodies, including night, long exposure, time-lapse and slow-mo. It's the XPAN mode that deserves special mention, since it shoots wide aspect ratio images, turning the shot into a negative before rendering the final image. Now it's all about how you frame the shot, but I've managed to click some very dramatic visuals using this mode... see some samples below. In fact, I've been trying to find a third-party camera app that can do this, so I could get similar results on any Android phone… but haven't had any luck so far.

Coming back to the main shooting modes though, the overall picture quality is excellent, as you can imagine. The 1-inch main sensor turns in a great performance and produces nice shots across a variety of different shooting scenarios and lighting conditions. Rich in detail and high on dynamic range, the shots are sharp and evenly focused in daylight. Low-light images are nice too, while edge detection on portraits is on point. The Find X6 Pro shines when it comes to zoom, thanks to 3X optical zoom, 6X in-sensor zoom and digital zoom that goes all the way up to a whopping 120X. Truth be told, at that magnification level it's quite tough to hold the image steady and get a usable shot, but AI features kick in and do their bit to help, especially with scenarios like moon shots. While there's no 8K video recording on offers, video quality is pretty good too. The 32MP shooter at front does a nice job as well, though sometimes the skin tones can be on the softer side. The proof of the pudding is in the eating though, so here are some camera samples for you to browse through.

Display, performance and battery life

Final verdict

Any verdict on the Find X6 Pro is mainly for academic interest, since unfortunately, OPPO isn't launching the phone in India officially. This is a bummer since this isn't just another loaded handset packed to the brim with powerful specs, a solid feature set and capable cameras, it has what it takes to deliver a great user experience. Any modern-day flagship smartphone these days is expected to score high on the core aspects like performance, battery life, camera quality etc, but the Find X6 Pro goes above and beyond in many ways — with its design and photography prowess proving to be the feathers in its already well-adored cap.
