OPPO Pad Mini India launch tipped, tablet reportedly spotted on BIS

OPPO could soon bring its Pad Mini compact tablet to India, according to tipster Debayan Roy, also known as Gadgetsdata. The tablet has reportedly cleared BIS certification, while its India launch is expected soon. OPPO has already launched the Pad Mini in China, giving us a good idea of what the Indian version could bring. Here’s what you need to know.

According to an X tipster, the OPPO Pad Mini has already cleared BIS certification in India, with the India launch expected soon. He also claims that the tablet could be priced below Rs 60,000, although OPPO has not confirmed its India launch, pricing, or availability yet.

The tablet was already launched in China earlier this year, so most of its hardware details are known. OPPO’s Chinese listing identifies the Pad Mini with an 8.8-inch AMOLED display, 2520 x 1680 resolution and an adaptive refresh rate of up to 144Hz.

The Pad Mini uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, with up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage on the Chinese model. The flagship chip should give the compact tablet more than enough performance for gaming, multitasking and other demanding tasks, while the smaller form factor makes it easier to carry than larger tablets.

The 8.8-inch AMOLED display supports up to 144Hz and uses a 3:2 aspect ratio. OPPO also offers a 2.5K-class resolution and high brightness, making the tablet suitable for reading, streaming and gaming.

With an 8,000mAh battery and 67W fast charging, you can also expect roughly a day of battery life. The tablet also gets a 13MP rear camera and 8MP front camera, while USB 3.2 connectivity provides faster data transfers.

The compact format is one of the Pad Mini’s most important traits and makes it part of a small segment in the current tablet market. Its 8.8-inch size is close to the iPad mini, but OPPO is pairing the smaller body with a much higher refresh rate and Android-based software.

OPPO Pad Mini could challenge the iPad mini

The Pad Mini’s biggest appeal is its combination of compact size and flagship-level hardware. Apple’s iPad mini remains one of the better-known options in this segment, but OPPO’s tablet brings an OLED panel, 144Hz refresh rate, a large battery and faster charging to the table.

The biggest question is whether OPPO will keep the same hardware and pricing when it brings the tablet to India. The sub-Rs 60,000 estimate from the tipster remains unconfirmed, and OPPO has not announced an India launch date yet.

Rising RAM and storage costs across the industry could also make it harder for OPPO to keep the final price as low as the leak suggests. As one of the few options in the compact Android tablet space, the OPPO Pad Mini could command a premium price in India.
