Remember the Samsung Galaxy Note? Before tall, narrower displays became the norm, big-screen phones often had wider proportions with phones that were more like phablets. OPPO could be bringing that design back with the rumoured Reno X, which is tipped to feature a 6.35-inch display with a 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio. The phone could also pack two 200MP rear cameras, including a periscope telephoto shooter, although OPPO hasn’t confirmed any of these details yet.

OPPO Reno X specifications

Tipster Gadgetsdata has shared the alleged specifications of the Reno X, describing it as a compact but wide slab phone. The device is said to feature a flat 6.35-inch display with 1.5K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio. That would make it look and feel different from most phones today, which have taller screens, but Huawei has brought back that concept with the Pura X View. A wider display could be handy when watching videos or playing games in landscape mode, without needing a foldable phone. The trade-off is that the phone could feel broader in the hand, and not every app will make the most of the extra horizontal space.

The camera hardware is ambitious too, much in line with the philosophy of the Reno series. The Reno X is tipped to feature a 200MP main camera with optical image stabilisation, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and a 200MP periscope telephoto camera. It could also use a MediaTek Dimensity 9000-series chipset and a metal frame. An earlier rumour mentioned a 7,000mAh battery, although that detail is yet to be corroborated.

Two 200MP cameras look impressive on paper, particularly the periscope unit, which could help with long-range zoom shots. But megapixel counts only tell part of the story. Image processing and actual zoom quality will determine whether the camera setup stands out against competing phones from Vivo and Samsung.

Notably, OPPO may be trying this new design in the Reno series rather than its flagship Find lineup. In India, Reno phones now start at Rs 52,999 and go up to Rs 72,999, putting them well above their original mid-range segment. That leaves room for a phone that offers something different from the usual glass slab without going down the foldable route. Still, a wide screen alone won’t be enough to make the Reno X a compelling buy. Its dimensions, software experience, camera performance, and price will matter just as much.

OPPO hasn’t confirmed the Reno X or announced a launch date. If you want a phone that’s comfortable for video and gaming, the wider display is worth watching. If you’re mainly after a good camera phone, though, it’s better to wait for camera samples and pricing before getting excited about the two 200MP sensors. The idea is interesting, but we’ll need to see the actual phone to know whether the wide design is genuinely useful or simply different.
