POCO is preparing to expand its X8 series in India, with the standard POCO X8 now being teased ahead of its launch. The phone is expected to sit below the POCO X8 Pro and X8 Pro Max, which arrived in India in March. While POCO hasn’t revealed the launch date or specifications yet, the upcoming phone could bring a much larger battery than its more expensive siblings.
POCO X8 India launch
A dedicated POCO X8 landing page is now live on Flipkart, confirming that the phone will be sold through the e-commerce platform in India. The teaser image shows the device from the rear, revealing a square camera module with rounded corners and two vertically arranged cameras. An LED flash sits alongside the lenses, while the power and volume buttons are visible on the right side.
POCO hasn’t revealed any other specifications or confirmed the launch date. However, a previous tip suggested that the POCO X8 could launch in India by early September, alongside the Poco X8 Power, and the company had started teasing two new phones on X. The upcoming phones are reportedly based on Xiaomi’s latest Redmi Note models. The POCO X8 is said to be based on the Redmi Note 17 Pro, while the X8 Power could be a rebranded Redmi Note 17 Pro Max, which was recently unveiled in Japan with a 10,000mAh battery.
POCO X8: what to expect
The new phones could fill a gap in POCO’s current India lineup. The Poco X8 Pro now starts at Rs 39,999, up from its Rs 32,999 launch price, while the X8 Pro Max starts at Rs 49,999, compared with Rs 42,999 originally. The company’s M-series remains below Rs 25,000, leaving little representation between the two ranges. Tipster Debayan Roy has suggested a price of around Rs 28,000 – Rs 30,000 for the POCO X8 and around Rs 35,000 for the X8 Power.
The POCO X8 is tipped to feature a 9,000mAh battery and Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 chipset, while the X8 Power could get a 10,000mAh battery, Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, a 6.83-inch 1.5K 120Hz AMOLED display and 100W charging. For context, the X8 Pro has a 6,500mAh battery and the X8 Pro Max an 8,500mAh cell, with both supporting 100W charging.
If the reported specifications are accurate, battery life could become a bigger selling point than performance, which is not what POCO originally intended with its performance-centric phones. Buyers should wait for the company to confirm details before choosing the X8. A 9,000mAh battery could offer excellent endurance, but a heavy chassis or slower charging could reduce some of that advantage.
