POVA has launched the POVA 8 in India, a budget smartphone designed for young users and content creators who want a distinctive look and fun visual effects. The phone arrives with a new “Alive Matrix Display” on the back, a secondary design-led screen that shows notifications and custom visual patterns, similar to the Nothing Phone (3) (review).
POVA now also appears to be operating as a standalone brand identity rather than under Tecno’s name and has teased the POVA 8 for India ahead of its June 11 launch. Let’s take a more detailed look at the product below.
The POVA 8 is available in two configurations: the 6GB + 128GB variant for Rs 29,999 and the 8GB + 128GB variant for Rs 31,999. These prices place the phone in the mid-range segment, where it competes on battery life, design and connectivity rather than performance.

The POVA 8 comes in RAM and storage variants: 6GB/8GB LPDDR5x RAM paired with 128GB or 256GB UFS 2.2 storage. The phone supports 20 5G bands and includes dedicated G1 and SE1 signal chipsets alongside the MediaTek Dimensity 7100 processor, which claims to improve reception even in low-signal zones.
You can expect satisfactory day-to-day performance, and with RAM fusion, it could deliver smoother multitasking and keep more apps open in the background. On the software side, HiOS 16 based on Android 16 runs the device and has had a slight visual revamp from last year.
Let’s first talk about the battery itself. The phone’s 8,000mAh battery currently sits among the largest in India’s mid-range segment. With this capacity, you can comfortably expect up to 2 days of battery life on a single charge, depending on your usage patterns. With 45W fast charging support, the phone should recharge in a reasonable amount of time, although it will likely take longer than an hour on average.
For visuals, the phone packs a 6.76-inch IPS panel with a 144Hz refresh rate, 950 nits of high-brightness mode and an FHD+ resolution of 1080 × 2344. The 144Hz refresh rate lets you push higher frame rates in compatible games and the brightness should ensure decent visibility even in direct sunlight.
In terms of design, the POVA 8 carries a gamer-focused look with a new Alive Matrix Display on the back, inspired by the Nothing Phone (3) (review). This secondary screen shows notifications and custom visual effects, so you can glance at the rear to see calls, messages or animations without flipping the phone. The phone comes in three colour variants: 16 Bit White, Plasma Orange and Terminal Green.
On the camera front, you get a 50MP primary lens with a light sensor, while the selfie camera uses a 13MP lens. Both cameras support AI CAM, Portrait, Super Night and 2K video recording at 30fps, giving you clearer selfies in low light, smart portrait effects and higher-quality video for social media and vlogs.
Tecno includes two dedicated G1 + SE1 signal chipsets to improve reception even in low-signal zones, and the phone supports 20 5G bands to keep speeds swift. There is also all-scenario AI noise reduction for clearer calls in busy environments.
The POVA 8 seems to be targeting buyers who want the Nothing-style rear design and display idea at a lower price, placing it in the mid-range bracket. However, the Nothing Phone (3) (review) already sells around Rs 40,000 during sales, so the POVA 8’s price puts it too close to that and buyers may turn towards the Phone (3) as it is a more complete flagship.
Against the OnePlus Nord CE 6 (review), which also comes at a similar price, the POVA 8 differentiates itself with its larger 8,000mAh battery and Alive Matrix Display, though the Nord offers a more refined overall package if you do not need the extra battery or rear display features.
