Rapoo T300P review: a trackpad for non-Apple devices

“With this device users can get great utility and comfortable browsing”

A couple of years back, Apple had announced the launch of its Magic Trackpad for iMac users. It was a large standalone touchpad for users who don’t prefer using a mouse. While the idea was unique, and there was no other device available in the market offering similar functionality, the Magic Trackpad sold in huge numbers, and is one of the most interesting accessories launched by Apple so far. Rapoo, a PC peripheral brand from China, now offers the T300P touchpad device in its catalogue, and it’s been made available for users in India as well. For those unaware, a touchpad is basically a pointing device similar to the one found on laptops. Users can simply move their fingers over it to control the onscreen pointer and perform various tasks. The Rapoo T300P offers the same functionality and is available as a standalone accessory. Rapoo05 The construction of the device carries the signature quality offered by the brand. It’s made utilising plastic and metal, with metal encasing all the sensitive electronics for a rigid and sturdy build. The surface of the touchpad has been given a rough texture, that works well even with sweaty fingers. The sensitivity of the touchpad is more towards the less sensitive side, which has been done on purpose. The touchpad does not get any hardware buttons unlike conventional touchpads. Instead, the company has utilised the lower portion of the touchpad as keys and users can gently tap on it to trigger the right or left click actions as per need. Rapoo03 In addition to regular point-and-click functionality, the Rapoo T300P touchpad also offers support for gestures and multi-finger swipes as well. For instance users can swipe downwards with three fingers to minimise all the windows and return to the desktop. In addition to this, users can also customise the actions as per need. The device feels good while using and offers very accurate and lag-free performance. Although with a touchpad of this size, it takes a little while to get used to its touch and feel and the way it behaves, but a few days with the device will surely get you addicted. One more reason for its smooth performance is the 5GHz radio frequency band that it utilises for connectivity with the included nano USB dongle. The USB dongle is compatible with PCs, notebook and even tablets and mobile devices with the help of a USB OTG cable. Rapoo04 We absolutely loved using the device for the time it was with us, and during our testing that spanned about 15 days, we never felt the need to recharge its built-in battery. The company has not claimed any run time for the battery, but considering the Rapoo E9180P keyboard and touchpad combo we reviewed earlier, it should last more than a couple of months between charges if not more. Rapoo02 Overall, the Rapoo T300P touchpad is a brilliant, utility-based, good-looking accessory for anyone who feels the need of a easy-to-use pointing device for their computer, notebook or even a tablet.
