Meta has launched the second generation of its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in India, arriving only weeks after the first-gen model made its debut in the country. The new Gen 2 version brings upgrades across video capture, battery performance, and Meta’s AI assistant, making the glasses feel more practical in everyday use.
The biggest upgrade is to the camera system. The new Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 glasses offer 3K Ultra HD video recording, along with improved stabilisation and a new ultra-wide HDR mode to capture details in tricky lighting. According to Meta, these upgrades will make everyday clips noticeably sharper. In the next few months, Meta will push out software updates with new creative capture modes such as hyperlapse and slow motion, expanding the kind of content users can capture hands-free.
Battery life has taken a large leap. The Gen 2 smart glasses can now last eight hours on one single charge, significantly more than the previous generation, claims Meta. Fast charging brings the battery to 50 percent in around 20 minutes, while the bundled charging case offers up to 48 additional hours, making the glasses more reliable for travel and long days out.
With all these technical upgrades, the glasses have still managed to keep the classic Ray-Ban look intact. The lineup includes the iconic Wayfarer, the modern Skyler, and the popular Headliner styles. Colours have been refreshed, too, with seasonal options such as Shiny Cosmic Blue, Shiny Mystic Violet, and Shiny Asteroid Grey offering more variety for buyers than before.
The built-in Meta AI assistant has been refined to feel faster and more helpful in daily situations. Users can say “Hey Meta” for answers, recommendations, or help capturing photos and videos. A big addition for India includes full Hindi support that lets users interact with the glasses naturally in Hindi to send messages, control music, or take a picture without touching their phone. Another feature, called Conversation Focus, also helps the glasses hear voices more clearly in noisy environments.
Meta is expanding its roster of AI voices with users now being able to opt to interact with a celebrity AI voice. For starters, users can speak to the assistant using the voice of actor Deepika Padukone.
Another India-specific feature is the support for UPI Lite payments. When looking at a QR code, users can say, “Hey Meta, scan and pay,” to complete a transaction. The payments will be processed from the WhatsApp-linked bank account of the user, thus enabling fast purchases and bill payments without having to take out a phone.
The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 prices begin at Rs 39,900, going up to Rs 45,700 depending on the frame and lens options. The glasses are available through Ray-Ban India’s website, major online retailers and select optical stores. Buyers can also choose from optional lenses and accessories at extra costs.
For anyone considering buying a pair, the Gen 2 glasses will make the most sense if you care about better video quality, longer battery life, and a more rounded Meta AI experience, as the upgrades should be noticeable in day-to-day use. But if you’re mainly interested in the smart-glasses basics and spot the Gen 1 model at a good discount, you could buy them too as the price difference is substantial. Smart glasses are still a niche product, but Meta seems to be turning them into something people can actually wear every day with this new feature set. With Hindi support, UPI payments, and more style choices, the company’s strategy seems to be of making the glasses feel familiar, useful, and a lot closer to the Indian mainstream audience.
