Realme 16 5G launching in India this week: launch date, price, design, specifications and everything we know

Realme will launch the Realme 16 5G in India on April 2nd, completing a lineup that already includes the Realme 16 Pro+ and Realme 16 Pro. While the Pro models bring upgrades around processing power and camera hardware, the Realme 16 5G is more of a phone built around battery capacity and day-to-day usability. The phone has already been introduced in select global markets earlier this year, so most of its specifications are already known.

Realme 16 5G design: large battery, controlled size

The Realme 16 5G pairs a 7,000mAh battery with a body that measures 8.1 mm thick and weighs 183 gms. Large batteries are becoming more common, but fitting one into this size and weight is still not typical across the mid-range segment, where higher capacity often comes with added bulk. Realme says it has used what it calls an ‘AirCraft Structure’ to optimise internal space and improve energy density. The idea is to increase battery capacity without making the phone harder to use over long periods.

The design also introduces a ‘Gleaming Wings’ finish, which creates a shifting effect under light. The phone will be available in Air Black and Air White, both tied to this finish. An anti-fingerprint coating and a softer back panel are also part of the design, aimed at improving grip and reducing visible smudges.

A small mirror integrated into the rear camera module allows users to frame selfies using the main camera. It’s a simple addition, but it directly addresses a common limitation of front cameras, which often fall behind rear sensors in image quality.

Realme 16 specifications: standard size, practical upgrades

The Realme 16 5G features a 6.57-inch display, which sits between compact and large-screen devices. It should remain manageable for one-handed use while still offering enough space for video playback and everyday tasks. Realme claims peak brightness of up to 4,200 nits, along with a 3,000Hz touch sampling rate and 2,160Hz PWM dimming. These specifications affect usability in areas like outdoor visibility, touch responsiveness, and eye comfort during extended use. The phone also carries an IP69 rating, which adds a higher level of dust and water resistance.

The 7,000mAh battery is the defining feature. Realme’s estimates suggest extended usage across messaging, social media, and video playback. While real-world performance will vary, the capacity places it at par with most devices in this category. Charging support includes 60W wired charging, along with AI-based features that manage charging patterns and battery efficiency.

The camera setup is expected to include a 50MP main sensor and a secondary lens, along with a high-resolution front camera. The rear mirror complements this by making it easier to use the primary camera for selfies.

Performance is expected to be mid-range. The global variant uses the MediaTek Dimensity 6400 Turbo, which doesn’t represent a major jump over the previous generation on paper. Devices such as the OnePlus Nord 5 and POCO F7 offer stronger performance, particularly for gaming and sustained workloads.

Realme 16 5G price estimated to be below Rs 30,000 in India

Realme has not announced India pricing yet. The global version which launched in Vietnam starts at around Rs 40,000 when converted, but that figure is unlikely to be reflected directly in India. With the Realme 16 Pro+ starting at Rs 39,999 and the Realme 16 Pro at Rs 31,999, the Realme 16 5G is expected to be priced lower. That would place it in a competitive range alongside offerings like the Redmi Note 15 Pro, Motorola Edge 70 and maybe even the upcoming Vivo T5 Pro.

Buyers deciding in this segment will need to weigh battery life against performance. Phones like the Redmi Note 15 Pro and POCO F7 may offer more processing power, while the Realme 16 5G is likely to appeal to those who want longer usage on a single charge without moving to a heavier device.
