Xiaomi has a busy month ahead with the Xiaomi 17T set to make its India debut on June 4th. Redmi Turbo 5 is also teased to launch in India as a new performance-focused smartphone. A new leak now suggests we might be getting another Redmi smartphone launching alongside the Redmi Turbo 5. This could be the Redmi 17 smartphone, which, as the name suggests, will succeed the Redmi 15 that launched in India last year in August. Here’s what to expect from the upcoming Redmi launch in India.
Redmi 17 India launch tipped
According to a report by Smartprix, citing tipster Yogesh Brar, Redmi is planning to launch an affordable 5G smartphone alongside the Redmi Turbo 5, which is the Redmi 17. This smartphone will be aimed at the budget crowd as a new 5G smartphone at an affordable price. In terms of specifications, it could house an LCD display with a high refresh rate and a Snapdragon 4 series chipset. It’s also tipped to come with a battery larger than 7,000mAh, a 50MP primary camera, and an 8MP front camera.
Redmi 17 would succeed the Redmi 15, which launched in India last September. Xiaomi skipped the ’16’ branding this time and jumped straight to 17, so the hierarchy makes sense. Redmi 15 launched as a big battery phone with a 7000mAh cell, a very large 6.9-inch display with a 144Hz refresh rate, and more. Redmi 17 appears to bring upgrades to the Redmi, but the chipset may be a downgrade as the Snapdragon 4 series is tipped, and the Redmi 15 uses the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 SoC.
However, it’s best to wait for more details before jumping to conclusions. One thing we can expect is a bump in pricing, considering the ongoing situation in the smartphone industry. Redmi 15 is currently priced at Rs 20,499, which is also after a price hike, so we can expect the Redmi 17 to cost around the same or higher.
This is the first we’re hearing about the Redmi 17, so we should wait for more concrete details. There’s no official launch date for the Redmi Turbo 5 yet, but it’s tipped to launch in India early June, so it shouldn’t be long till we know more. The Redmi 17 could be worth waiting for if your priorities include a budget 5G phone with a large battery capacity, and possibly a large display too. If you’re on an older Redmi phone or 4G handset, this could be a notable upgrade.
