Redmi Note 17 Pro survives football shots, firehose blast in new teaser
Xiaomi has released a new teaser for the upcoming Redmi Note 17 Pro, putting the smartphone through a series of unusual durability tests ahead of its official debut. Through the video, the company highlights the phone’s rugged design, which includes Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on the front and IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance. The Redmi Note 17 series is confirmed to debut in China on July 14th.
Redmi Note 17 Pro durability challenge
The cinematic teaser shows the Redmi Note 17 Pro facing three rounds of durability tests. The opening round, titled “Goalkeeper”, shows several Redmi Note 17 Pro units mounted on robotic arms that block football penalty shots. The second round, roughly translated to “Extreme Impact Test” shows the phones taking direct hits from hard objects such as walnuts and even a durian.

The next round, “Ultra High-Pressure Water Resistance Challenge”, first demonstrates the strength of a firefighter’s hose by showing it shatter glass panels and push a parked car before directing the high-pressure water jet at the Redmi Note 17 Pro. The phone remains fixed in place and miraculously continues to operate. While these are controlled tests, the teaser suggests Xiaomi is making durability one of the Redmi Note 17 Pro’s key selling points.
Redmi Note 17 series launch timeline and expected features
The Redmi Note 17 series is scheduled to launch in China on July 14th at 7 pm CST (4:30 pm IST). While Xiaomi hasn’t announced a global rollout yet, the Redmi Note 17 has already appeared on the BIS certification website, indicating that an India launch could follow. The lineup is expected to include the Redmi Note 17 and Redmi Note 17 Pro, while rumours also point to a Redmi Note 17 Pro Max joining the series.
Redmi has also refreshed the design with vertically aligned camera modules and new rear panel finishes featuring cloud and shooting star-inspired patterns. According to leaks, the Redmi Note 17 could feature a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display, Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 chipset, a larger battery than the Redmi Note 15’s 5,800mAh unit, 67W fast charging, a 50MP primary camera, and HyperOS 3.1 based on Android 16. The newer chipset should also offer an upgrade over the Redmi Note 15’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 for everyday performance. The Redmi Note 17 Pro, meanwhile, is rumoured to feature a 10,000mAh battery, which would make it one of the largest in its segment. It’s also tipped to pack a Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chipset, a 1.5K flat OLED display, a 50MP primary camera, and a 32MP selfie camera.
From what has been revealed so far, Xiaomi appears to be shifting the Redmi Note series towards bigger batteries and stronger durability while retaining its value positioning. The mid-range smartphone market has increasingly focused on battery capacity in recent months, with brands like Honor, OnePlus, OPPO, Realme and Motorola making 7,000mAh the bare minimum and going up to 11,000mAh. If the Redmi Note 17 Pro’s rumoured 10,000mAh battery is for real, it could stand out, making the series worth waiting for for users who prioritise endurance or upgrading from a much older phone.
