Xiaomi is taking the Redmi Note 17 series outside China, with the lineup set to launch in Malaysia on August 18th. The global range will also introduce the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max, a new top-end model that sits above the Note 17 and Note 17 Pro and was not part of the Chinese lineup.
The Pro Max is also bringing the biggest battery yet to a Redmi Note phone. Xiaomi says it will use a silicon-carbon battery with up to 10,000mAh capacity. This comes at a time when brands are scrambling to join the list of 10,000mAh battery phones, with Vivo, Honor and Realme already in there.
Redmi Note 17
The Chinese Redmi Note 17 uses a Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chipset, 7-inch OLED display, 8,000mAh battery with 45W charging and a 50MP main camera. It also has an IP65 rating. The global version specifications, leaked earlier by tipster Sudhanshu, shows the same chipset and 45W charging but appears to make several changes. It’s tipped to get a 6.99-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 7,700mAh battery and 16MP selfie camera, compared to the China variant’s 8MP. Storage is expected to go up to 256GB, with microSD expansion up to 2TB. It’s tipped to come in Celestial Purple, Sky Teal and Black.
Redmi Note 17 Pro
The Chinese Note 17 Pro packs a Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display, 9,000mAh battery with 67W charging and a 50MP main camera with a 2MP depth sensor. The global model is tipped to retain the chipset and display but use an 8,340mAh silicon-carbon battery. The camera setup gets a bigger upgrade, with a 50MP OIS main camera and 8MP ultrawide replacing the Chinese model’s 2MP secondary sensor. Up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage are also listed. Colour options are Black, Sky Blue, Satin Orange and Purple.
Redmi Note 17 Pro Max
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max is the headline addition, and the first ‘Pro Max’ in the lineup after Xiaomi introduced equivalents in the Redmi K-series, the flagship Xiaomi 17 series and the POCO X8 series. There is no equivalent Chinese model to compare it with, making this a new tier for the global range. The leaked sheet lists a Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chipset, 6.83-inch 1.5K 120Hz AMOLED display, 50MP OIS main camera, 8MP ultrawide and 32MP selfie camera. It’s expected in Black, Cloud Blush, Green and Purple, with up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. The Pro Max also gets 100W charging and IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings. A Geekbench listing has already pointed to the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 and 8GB RAM, giving the global model an early performance profile.
However, even though Xiaomi has teased a 10,000mAh battery, the leak by Sudhanshu shows a 9,210mAh typical-capacity battery with 100W charging.
For buyers, the Pro looks like the most balanced upgrade, especially with OIS and an ultrawide camera. The Pro Max is aimed at users who value battery life and faster charging above all else. Xiaomi is expected to reveal pricing and confirm the full specifications at the Malaysian launch on August 18th.
