Xiaomi has officially started teasing its next-generation Redmi Note smartphones in China, confirming that the Redmi Note 17 series will launch later this month. The announcement comes shortly after several leaks on the Redmi Note 17 series. It will be part of the brand’s popular mid-range lineup and is expected to arrive globally, including India, later this year.
While Xiaomi has not announced an exact launch date or confirmed the individual models, the company says the upcoming Redmi Note 17 series will deliver improvements in display quality, battery life, durability, and overall user experience compared to the Redmi Note 15 lineup. The teaser also marks another milestone for the brand, as Xiaomi reveals that the Redmi Note series has surpassed 500 million global shipments over the past 12 years.
Redmi Note 17 series: what to expect
Although official specifications remain under wraps, recent leaks suggest the lineup could include the Redmi Note 17, Redmi Note 17 Pro, and Redmi Note 17 Pro Max. The top-end Pro Max variant is expected to feature MediaTek’s Dimensity 7500 chipset, alongside a 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP5 primary sensor, continuing the trend of high-resolution cameras in the mid-range segment.
Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 17 Pro is rumoured to sport a 32MP selfie camera using Samsung’s ISOCELL KD5 sensor and could pack a massive 10,000mAh battery for the Chinese market. If accurate, it would rank among the largest batteries on a mid-range smartphone and on a Redmi Note series model. It’s also interesting that the Redmi Note 17 series not being traditionally performance-focused will offer a massive battery.
The Redmi Note series has traditionally targeted buyers looking for an all-round package rather than flagship performance. If Xiaomi delivers meaningful battery upgrades while maintaining competitive pricing, the Redmi Note 17 series could appeal to users upgrading from older Redmi Note devices or anyone seeking long battery life without moving into the premium smartphone segment.
For those planning to upgrade, if long battery life is your absolute priority and you’re due for an upgrade, waiting for the Redmi Note 17 series might be worthwhile, especially if the 10,000mAh battery rumour holds.
