Xiaomi is set to kick off 2026 with a major tablet launch in India with the Redmi Pad 2 Pro 5G officially debuting on January 6th. The company has been teasing the tablet through a dedicated microsite, revealing several core specifications and design details, giving us a fairly clear picture of what to expect from its next mid-range tablet. New details, including the Redmi Pad 2 Pro’s chipset, dimensions, have been officially revealed, and its price range has been leaked as well.
At the heart of the tablet will be Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset paired with an Adreno 810 GPU. This mid-range chipset offers a good balance between performance and efficiency. It will feature a metal unibody chassis, measure just 7.5mm in thickness, and weigh around 610 grams. Audio is handled by a quad-speaker setup with Dolby Atmos, along with a volume boost feature that should appeal to OTT binge-watchers and gamers.
Battery life is another area where Xiaomi is aiming to differentiate. The Redmi Pad 2 Pro 5G will pack a massive 12,000mAh battery, which the company claims is the world’s largest battery in a tablet with a 12.1-inch display. In a market where tablets are increasingly being used for online classes, office work, and travel entertainment, battery endurance has become just as important as raw performance.
The Redmi Pad 2 Pro 5G will feature a 12.1-inch Quad HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Dolby Vision support. This setup should be good enough for content consumption, multitasking, gaming, and studying.
In terms of pricing, tipster Abhishek Yadav claims that the Redmi Pad 2 Pro Wi-Fi-only base variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage will start at around Rs 25,000, while the 5G versions with 8GB RAM + 128GB storage will be priced at roughly Rs 28,000, and Rs 30,000 for the 256GB model. Sales in India are said to begin on January 12th via the Xiaomi India online store.
Globally, the Redmi Pad 2 Pro 5G launched in select European markets in September with the same hardware revealed so far, so the Indian model shouldn’t be much different. With its pricing under Rs 30,000, the Redmi Pad 2 Pro 5G would make for a compelling option for a mid-range tablet offering premium features. If the pricing holds, it could quickly become one of the most attractive Android tablets to kick off 2026.
It would also directly compete with the recently launched OnePlus Pad Go 2 (review), which starts at Rs 26,999. The Redmi Pad Go 2 could have an edge with a bigger battery and a more competitive price. With the launch taking place in less than a week, you should definitely wait for the official details before buying a new mid-range tablet.
