Redmi has confirmed its next lower mid-range tablet, the Redmi Pad 2 Pro 5G, will launch in India on January 6th alongside the Redmi Note 15 108 MasterPixel Edition. The USP of the new tablet is a massive 12,000mAh battery, which the company claims is segment-leading. The Redmi Pad 2 Pro 5G microsite is already live on the Xiaomi website, revealing key details. As the tablet has already launched in select European markets, most of its key specs are already known.
Battery life is at the core of Redmi’s pitch. The company claims the 12,000mAh cell is the largest battery used in a tablet with a 12.1-inch display. For context, the standard Redmi Pad 2 packs a 9,000mAh battery, which is already respectable for everyday use but noticeably smaller than what the Pro will offer. Rival tablets in this segment sit lower. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A11+ and Lenovo’s Idea Tab 11-inch 5G both feature batteries of around 7,040mAh, while the OnePlus Pad Go LTE comes with a larger 10,050mAh battery. This gives the Redmi Pad 2 Pro 5G a clear advantage for users who prioritise long screen-on time for streaming, online classes, or work without frequent charging. Redmi’s strategy seems to be of gaining favour among students and the young audience with good battery backup and display.

The tablet comes with a 12.1-inch LCD display featuring 2.5K resolution (2,560×1,600 pixels), an aspect ratio of 16:10, and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The peak brightness is 500 nits, which is expected to be good enough for indoor and occasional outdoor use. Compared to the regular Redmi Pad 2 which is positioned more towards casual use, the Pro model includes a larger screen and will provide smoother visuals since the vanilla model’s 11-inch display tops at 90Hz.
Under the hood, the Redmi Pad 2 Pro 5G global variant is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset with an Adreno 810 GPU. The base configuration comes with 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage, with support for microSD card expansion up to 2TB. It’s not flagship-level performance, but it should be enough to handle everyday browsing, video calls, streaming, and even some light productivity.
The Redmi Pad 2 Pro comes with a quad-speaker setup supporting Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio, along with a claimed 300 percent audio boost, making it a strong option for media consumption. Camera hardware is basic, with an 8MP camera on both the front and back, which is typical for tablets in this segment. There is 33W wired fast charging, while the tablet also supports 27W reverse charging.
The Redmi Pad 2 Pro starts at EUR 379.9 (roughly Rs 40,000) in Europe, but the Indian pricing could be more aggressive. In India, the Redmi Pad 2 Pro 5G will face mid-range Android tablets like the Galaxy Tab A9+ 5G, OnePlus Pad Go LTE, and Lenovo’s 11-inch Idea Tab 5G. For a buyer looking for more display real estate, higher refresh rate, and good better battery life, the Redmi Pad 2 Pro could make sense. buyers should look for launch offers to make the deal even sweeter.
