Samsung is expected to launch several new products soon as part of its summer Unpacked event. The lineup could include the next-generation foldables and smartwatches as well. Ahead of the rumoured release, 91mobiles has spotted the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification website, confirming their imminent arrival.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide has appeared on BIS with the model number SM-F971B. While the listing doesn’t reveal the handset’s name, the model number has been associated with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. As the name suggests, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is expected to feature a wider aspect ratio for its inner folding screen. It’s rumoured to feature a 4:3 aspect ratio for the inner display, which would make the foldable feel like a smaller, square-shaped tablet than the current Z Fold 7.
Samsung’s rumored move to a wider aspect ratio for the Fold 8 Wide could be a smart play, addressing a key user pain point that rivals have already tackled, potentially making it a more compelling option.
As for the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, we had just spotted the smartwatch on China’s CMIIT certification platform, and it has now received BIS certification. The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 carries the model number SM-L715F, the same as the CMIIT listing, with the last letter indicating the market.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 will launch as the premium model in the lineup, rumoured to offer a sizeable 784mAh battery. It’s also tipped to become Samsung’s first smartwatch with 5G connectivity and could use Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon Wear Elite platform for stronger on-device AI capabilities and improved power efficiency. This would give the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 an edge over rival smartwatches as more OEMs push AI on devices. The Watch Ultra 2’s rumored 5G and advanced AI could finally give Android users a true competitor to the Apple Watch Ultra, if implemented well, marking a significant step for Samsung’s wearable strategy.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 are expected to debut together at a Galaxy Unpacked event in London on July 22nd. This would be the global release, including India as well. While we don’t know much yet, we can say that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide can be considered by those who are interested in the wider aspect ratio on a foldable for better usability. The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 might be worth waiting for if it’s a premium Android smartwatch with 5G and advanced AI features.
