Tecno’s slimmest phone yet might arrive before iPhone 17 Air
Shortly after Samsung unveiled its super-slim smartphone, the Galaxy S25 Edge, in January this year, Tecno also took the liberty to showcase its own. The Tecno Spark Slim was, however, a concept phone, but a promising one, measuring only 5.75 mm, even thinner than the S25 Edge’s 5.8mm body (review). The latter is available for commercial purchase, and it may have a rival soon, as Tecno plans to launch its slim smartphone in India. The official moniker hasn’t been confirmed yet, but let’s go with Tecno Spark Slim for now.
Samsung may have become the frontrunner for slim phones with the S25 Edge, but Tecno might be able to steal the thunder from an upcoming contender, the iPhone 17 Air. Apple’s rumoured slim iPhone is expected to measure only 5.5mm, making it the thinnest available. It will most likely debut in September, but Tecno also plans to launch the Spark Slim soon, according to industry sources. There’s no confirmed launch date for either, but Apple won’t be sharing the limelight alone.

The Galaxy S25 Edge is priced at Rs 1,09,999, and the iPhone 17 Air is expected to cost around $900, which translates to approx Rs 78,715. Tecno is known for offering reasonably-priced smartphones, and even its foldables, like the Phantom V Fold 2, priced at Rs 79,999, and the V Flip 2 at Rs 34,999, are priced lower than rivals. It remains to be seen whether the brand plans to take a premium route with its upcoming slim smartphone.
What do we know about the Tecno Spark Slim?
Tecno showcased the Spark Slim at MWC, unveiling it as the world’s thinnest smartphone at just 5.75mm. It could hold onto that title unless the upcoming iPhone 17 Air, rumoured to be 5.5mm thick, manages to undercut it. Where the Spark Slim stands out, though, is in battery capacity. Despite its ultra-thin frame, it packs a 5,200mAh cell, significantly larger than the 17 Air’s expected sub-3,000mAh battery and the Galaxy S25 Edge’s 3,900mAh unit. According to our review, the S25 Edge requires a mid-day charge if you’re gaming, using maps, or performing any other demanding task.
Fitting such a large battery into a slim profile is no small feat, and it should comfortably deliver all-day endurance. Adding to the appeal is 45W fast charging, outpacing what both Apple and Samsung currently offer.
The Tecno Spark Slim has a 6.78-inch AMOLED curved display (1224p) with a 144 Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 4,500 nits. The smartphone also has a 13MP front-facing camera. Tecno hasn’t specified the chipset, but it’s an octa-core CPU.
With the iPhone 17 Air and Tecno Spark Slim expected to launch soon, consumers may finally see a shift toward a new form factor. After years of bulky, heavy devices, ultra-thin smartphones could feel like a refreshing change. The real question, however, is whether this slim design can win over buyers without forcing too many compromises. That’s something we’ll only know once these devices hit the market.
