Xiaomi has officially started teasing the upcoming Xiaomi 17 Max ahead of its launch later this month, revealing the design and confirming that the phone will sit above the standard Xiaomi 17 in the lineup. Xiaomi executive Lu Weibing has described (via) the 17 Max as a “fully upgraded” version of the regular Xiaomi 17 rather than just a larger-sized model.
The teaser images show a familiar Xiaomi flagship design with slim bezels, rounded corners, and a large circular rear camera module. Xiaomi has confirmed black, blue, and white colour options, while reports suggest some variants may continue using ceramic or carbon fibre-inspired finishes. Based on the specifications leaked so far, the upgrades appear to focus on the display, battery, cameras, and charging setup.

The 6.9-inch display would make the Xiaomi 17 Max one of the larger flagship phones expected this year. Xiaomi is also expected to use a flat panel instead of a curved display, something several Android brands have gradually shifted back toward recently.
The battery could end up being the phone’s biggest talking point. Reports suggest the Xiaomi 17 Max may feature an 8,000mAh battery, which is significantly larger than what most flagship phones from Samsung and Google currently offer. The camera setup also appears to be receiving a proper upgrade. The phone is expected to feature a 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP-series main sensor alongside 50MP ultrawide and 50MP periscope telephoto cameras. Leica branding is expected to remain part of the imaging system.
Performance is tipped to come from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. The larger battery will likely add some extra weight, although Xiaomi has not officially confirmed the dimensions yet.
In Xiaomi’s current flagship lineup, the Xiaomi 17 is already positioned as a fairly premium compact flagship, starting at Rs 89,999 in India with a 6.3-inch LTPO AMOLED display, Leica-backed triple 50MP cameras, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, and a 6,330mAh battery. The China-exclusive Xiaomi 17 Pro takes a slightly more experimental route with additions like a secondary rear display and a 5x periscope telephoto camera, but still keeps the same overall compact flagship approach. Xiaomi also has the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max in the lineup with a larger 6.9-inch display and a 7,500mAh battery, aimed at buyers who prefer bigger screens and longer battery life.
Based on the leaks so far, the Xiaomi 17 Max seems to sit somewhere between those approaches. It keeps the large-screen form factor of the Pro Max, but appears to push battery capacity even further with a reported 8,000mAh unit while also switching to a 200MP main camera setup. On paper, it looks like Xiaomi trying to build a large flagship around battery life and multimedia use.
