Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, OPPO Reno 17 new certification suggests imminent global launch

Highlights
  • Both phones have received Thailand’s NBTC certification.
  • Xiaomi 18 Pro Max is already available in China.
  • OPPO Reno 17 is expected to debut next month.

Two new smartphones have received Thailand’s NBTC certification, suggesting a global launch is close. The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, which launched in China last month, and the OPPO Reno 17, which is an upcoming phone expected to debut in November. Both phones are also expected to arrive in India, although it’s speculated that Xiaomi might bring only the 18 Pro and 18T here, and not the Pro Max model.

Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, OPPO Reno 17 NBTC certification

Xiaomi 18 Pro Max with the model number 2611FPNFAG has been spotted on Thailand’s NBTC database, confirming its launch in the country. The listing clearly mentions the name of the phone, so there’s no guessing game here. Same for the OPPO Reno17 5G; the smartphone has been certified with the model number CPH2975. The certification doesn’t reveal any specs of the phone other than confirming its imminent launch.

The Reno 17 is tipped to launch in India as well, alongside the Reno 17c. It’s speculated that the Reno 17 Pro might not launch here, which wouldn’t be entirely surprising, as the Reno 16 Pro didn’t debut here either. The Reno 17 is tipped to launch in India with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, which is the same chipset as its predecessor, the Reno 16.

The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, on the other hand, is the brand’s latest and most premium flagship yet. The handset comes with the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, a large 6.9-inch OLED display, and a 2.9-inch secondary display on the back. For optics, the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max houses a 200MP primary camera, a 200MP periscope telephoto lens with 3.2x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. The primary and telephoto cameras have been upgraded from the 17 Pro Max.

Since both phones cater to different price segments, the Reno 17 is more for people who want a premium mid-ranger with a stylish design and versatile cameras. We should still wait for official details, as there’s no confirmation yet. The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, on the other hand, is an ultra-flagship phone with an interactive rear display, the fastest chipset, and powerful cameras. If you own an older flagship, the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max might be a compelling upgrade, but if you have the 17 Pro Max, wait for reviews to assess the improvements.
