Xiaomi’s next foldable is shaping up to be a big change from the company’s previous Mix Fold phones, both in name and hardware. The Xiaomi 18 Fold is expected to debut in China in early September, with a wider design, a new in-house flagship chip and a large battery among its highlights. Xiaomi has already confirmed that the phone will be the first to use its 3nm Xring O3 processor and next-generation LPDDR6 RAM.
Xiaomi 18 Fold battery and charging details
According to tipster Bald Panda, the Xiaomi 18 Fold will have a 6,000mAh battery, along with support for 67W wired and 50W wireless charging. The battery would give Xiaomi an advantage over several competing wide-format foldables. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 has a 4,880mAh battery, while the Huawei Pura X View packs a 5,300mAh unit.
There are foldables with 6,000mAh or larger batteries, but they use different form factors. The Vivo X Fold 5 and OPPO Find N6 are among the models with 6,000mAh-class batteries, while the Honor Magic V6 goes further with a 6,660mAh silicon-carbon battery. These phones, however, do not have the wider design which Xiaomi’s new foldable sports.
The 67W wired charging is also considerably faster than what Samsung offers on its Fold series, although Xiaomi’s 50W wireless charging could be an equally useful addition for buyers who prefer cable-free charging.
Xiaomi 18 Fold: what to expect
The Xiaomi 18 Fold is expected to feature a 7.6-inch foldable display and run HyperOS 4 based on Android 17. A 200MP primary camera is also rumoured, along with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. Leaked real-life images have shown a wider body, horizontal camera module and deep red finish. The phone will also mark Xiaomi’s move away from the Mix Fold branding, bringing its foldable range under the Xiaomi 18 name.
The Xring O3 is another major change. Xiaomi has confirmed that the 18 Fold will be its first phone with the company’s new in-house flagship chip, rather than a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Xiaomi will also use LPDDR6 RAM in the device, making it an early showcase for the newer memory standard.
Xiaomi is also expected to announce the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max alongside the foldable, with the same Xring O3 chip. Details about the tablet remain limited.
For buyers interested in foldables, the 18 Fold could be worth watching if battery capacity, charging speed and a wider screen are priorities. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold range remains the safer choice for those who value an established foldable platform, while Honor’s Magic V6 offers a larger battery. The Xiaomi 18 Fold could stand out if its wider design and new silicon deliver without a major compromise in weight or thickness. There is still no confirmation of an India launch. Xiaomi has yet to bring its foldable phones to the Indian market, making local availability uncertain.
