Itel A50 Expert Review Summary
Expert Rating:
7.0/10
Verdict
The itel A50 is a solid choice for budget-conscious users seeking a smartphone upgrade. While it may not fully deliver on the company's 'all-rounder' claims, the handset surely provides a sleek design, a respectable display, and adequate performance for everyday tasks.
Pros
- Good design
- Respectable viewing experience
- Decent performance
Cons
- Cameras need improvement
- Slow charging speeds
Design and display
+
The itel A50 shares a design similar to its larger sibling, the itel A70, launched earlier this year. The device is constructed using plastic and features flat edges, three individual rings on the rear panel for the cameras and an LED flash. The rear panel has a textured surface with a glossy square finish around the rings, along with the branding 'AWESOME Designed by itel' and 'AI camera'. We received the Misty Aqua variant, which looks elegant. However, the included high-quality TPU case, while providing protection from accidental drops and falls, comes in a grey shade that conceals the phone's aesthetics.

Cameras
+
In the camera department, the itel A50 is equipped with dual 8MP AI rear cameras and a 5MP front camera housed in a waterdrop notch. These are simple point-and-shoot cameras with average performance, as expected from a budget device. Images shot from the primary camera in well-lit environments appear likeable for the price, even though the autofocus and shutter speeds are not up to the mark.

Performance and software
+
The itel A50 is powered by the Unisoc T603 chipset, an entry-level processor capable of handling basic tasks. However, it is not as powerful as the Moto G04's Unisoc T606 SoC. We received the 4GB RAM variant of the itel smartphone, and it achieved a score of 151,010 on AnTuTu, which is nearly 100,000 points lower than its rival. Similarly, on Geekbench, the A50 managed a modest 212 in the single-core test and 833 in the multi-core test. On the bright side, the phone throttles to a decent 63.2 percent of its peak performance in the Burnout CPU Throttle test.

Battery and charging
+
The itel A50 is equipped with a standard 5,000mAh battery with 10W fast charging support. The charger is provided in the box and it takes approximately three hours to juice up the device from 20 to 100 percent. The full charge is expected to last at least a day. On the PCMark battery test, the handset achieved 8 hours 45 minutes, which is slightly underwhelming for a phone meant to handle basic activities. Moving on, in our 30-minute YouTube video streaming and gaming tests, the itel A50 consumed 28 percent battery life on aggregate.
