Karbonn Titanium X Expert Review Summary
Expert Rating:
8.0/5
Verdict
The Titanium X proves that the Karbonn is ready to take the big boys with its premium specifications and nice design. The fact that it’s one of the cheapest devices flaunting a full HD resolution makes it a great buy coupled with the smooth performance. The Karbonn Titanium X was initially launched at the price of Rs 18,490, but is now available in the market at a price of Rs 15,000. At this price-point, it’d be up against affordable devices from renowned manufacturers such as the
Pros
- Unibody design
- Great display
- Powerful performance
- 5-megapixel front camera with a dedicated flash
Cons
- Non-expandable memory
- Average main camera
Robust unibody construction with curved back
+
Unlike the usual boxy design used by many smartphones, Karbonn has taken a different approach with the Titanium X. The display sits atop a back shell and raises its profile a bit. The display panel has extremely thin bezels and is surrounded by metallic edges. Towards the bottom of the display, one can find the usual array of capacitive backlit keys for options, menu and back that are used navigating through Android. The top portion at the front gets the usual earpiece, notification LED, camera and flash. The sides and the back of the device constitutes of matte plastic in white.

Brilliant full HD display
+
The highlight of the device, without a doubt, is its 1,080p resolution on the large 5-inch IPS display. This translates to a high pixel density of 441 pixels-per-inch. Thanks to the use of OGS technology, the display is very thin. It offers good colour reproduction and viewing angles. Watching HD movies on the Karbonn Titanium X is a delight, and so is reading text. The brightness settings are also adequate and we faced no difficulty in using the device in most conditions, barring direct sunlight. We struggled in viewing the screen in sunlight even with full brightness.

Selfie camera for Instagram addicts
+
Ever wanted to take a self-portrait at a wonderful location having poor lighting conditions and got frustrated at the results? Well, the Titanium X intends to change that with its front-facing camera being supplemented by an LED flash. As far as we know, this is the first smartphone offering a flash for the front camera. The 5MP camera is good for HD video calls as well as selfies.

Turbo-charged performance provides lag-free experience
+
The performance of the Karbonn Titanium X is handled by a quad-core MediaTek MT6589T processor clocked at 1.5GHz. The processor is supplemented by a dedicated PowerVR SGX544 GPU that aids in running high-definition videos and graphic-intensive games smoothly. During our usage, the device felt very responsive and there were no lags whatsoever. Games like Riptide GP2 and Dead Trigger 2 ran without a hitch and the graphics were also rendered well.

A few other tricks up its sleeve
+
The Karbonn Titanium X runs Android v4.2.2 Jelly Bean without much alterations to the stock UI, though the smartphone does gets a host of preinstalled apps. The manufacturer has also added two of its own apps, Karbonn Live for VAS content and Karbonn Zone, which essentially is a wrapper for a mobile website for downloading all kinds of content. There are third-party apps as well, such as Flipboard, Hungama, Kingsoft Office, Truecaller, and more. Strangely, the device has three preloaded browsers: Maxthon, Opera Mini and UC Browser apart from the default Android browser. It also gets some games like Bubble Bash 3 and Modern Combat 4, but unfortunately these are simply demo games and users have to purchase the paid versions to play them.
