Hands-On at CES 2026: MSI Prestige and Modern Laptops Mean Business

MSI has long been known as a gaming-first brand, but CES 2026 makes one thing very clear: the company wants equal recognition on the non-gaming side too. Alongside its gaming machines, MSI showcased a refreshed lineup of business and productivity laptops that feel more premium, more refined, and more confident than ever before. I got a chance to spend time with these devices during a pre-briefing in December, and these are my first impressions of MSI’s push beyond gaming

Non-Gaming Laptops: MSI Wants Respect Here Too

MSI knows it already commands respect in the gaming space. Now, it wants that same recognition on the non-gaming side.

Speaking of Respect, let’s talk about the Prestige lineup

Thinner, softer, more refined, the all-new Prestige series laptops finally look and feel like they belong in premium boardrooms and cafés, not just gaming desks. At just 1.32kg and 11.9mm thin, the new Prestige is the lightest and slimmest in the series. The tapered edges make it feel even thinner in the hand, which adds to the premium illusion.

Powered by Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors and paired with an 81Wh battery, MSI is claiming up to 30+ hours of 1080p video playback. Add Intel Arc B390 graphics into the mix, and you suddenly have a laptop that can handle serious productivity, content creation, and even light AAA gaming without breaking a sweat.

The Flip Models and the Nano Pen Steal the Show

What truly surprised me, though, were the Prestige Flip models. On paper, they’re just convertible versions of the standard Prestige laptops. In reality, they’re far more thoughtful.

Hidden neatly inside the rubber padding at the bottom is the MSI Nano Pen, and I absolutely love how it’s been integrated. It’s elegant, practical, and something most brands would overcomplicate. Thankfully, though, MSI didn’t.

The pen itself performs well for students, professionals, and creators, but the real party trick is its charging. A 15-second charge gives you around 45 minutes of usage, and a full charge takes just 30 seconds. On top of that, pressing both buttons instantly triggers voice chat with Microsoft Copilot. It’s clever, it’s useful, and it feels genuinely modern.

Add in a 120Hz OLED display, the large Action Touchpad with gesture support, Windows Hello with presence detection, and that massive 81Wh battery, and the Prestige lineup starts looking very serious indeed.

Covering Both Ends of the Spectrum

Capping off the Prestige lineup is the 13-inch model, weighing just 899 grams. MSI claims it’s the lightest 13-inch magnesium-aluminium laptop in the world, and holding it in hand, that claim doesn’t feel exaggerated. Despite the weight, it still packs Intel Core Ultra Series 3 performance, making it ideal for business users who live out of their backpacks.

And for those shopping on tighter budgets, MSI hasn’t forgotten the Modern lineup. The new Modern 14S and 16S bring noticeable design upgrades, with more metal, smoother contours, and a more premium feel overall. Yes, the bezels are thicker than expected for 2026, but they add durability, which makes sense for students and everyday users.

You also get a choice between a 120Hz VRR IPS display or a 60Hz OLED panel, along with a generous selection of ports that eliminates dongle dependency. Performance, display, and design all see meaningful improvements here, without prices spiralling out of control.

Final Thoughts

With the new Prestige and Modern lineup, MSI isn’t just experimenting. It’s making a serious play for professionals, students, and everyday users who want performance without sacrificing design or portability. The hardware feels polished, the feature set feels thoughtful, and the overall direction feels intentional. As always, these are early impressions, and full reviews will follow once the laptops make their way to India and onto our test bench. But if first impressions are anything to go by, MSI’s non-gaming ambitions are finally catching up to its reputation.
