4 reasons to buy the Realme 16 Pro and 3 reasons to skip it

The Realme 16 Pro is the standard model in the brand’s latest number series, bringing a premium yet distinctive design, a 200MP primary camera, a massive 7,000mAh battery, and the new realme UI 7. Realme’s number series has primarily focused on offering value but with premium features and design. With a starting price of Rs 31,999, the smartphone sits firmly in the popular mid-range segment. We reviewed the Realme 16 Pro in detail, evaluating its performance, cameras, battery life, and software experience. Based on our findings, here are the key reasons to buy the Realme 16 Pro, and the reasons you might want to skip it.

Reasons to buy the Realme 16 Pro

Bright, vibrant display

The Realme 16 Pro has a 6.78-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 1272 x 2722 resolution and a peak brightness of up to 6,500 nits. Colours appear vibrant, particularly with Realme’s Flux Theme wallpapers, and outdoor visibility remains strong with the extra brightness mode. The slim bezels also add to the immersive experience, especially when watching content. The panel supports a 144Hz refresh rate, though most apps support 120Hz. Even so, everyday scrolling feels smooth and responsive.

Excellent battery life

Battery performance is the Realme 16 Pro’s standout feature. It packs a large 7,000mAh battery with 80W fast charging, matching the pricier Pro+ model. In the PCMark test, the phone lasted 14 hours and 18 minutes, making it one of the best in its segment. In daily use with social media, streaming, light gaming, 5G, and always-on display, it comfortably lasted over a full day. The 80W charger was equally impressive, taking the battery from 20 to 100 percent in just 49 minutes. The Realme 16 Pro ensures you have no battery anxiety.

Loud, punchy speakers

The Realme 16 Pro has a single bottom speaker with the earpiece doubling as one on top. The smartphone also has this 300 percent volume feature, which can get very loud. This really helps when you’re watching movies, shows, or even gaming. The loud volume also doesn’t lead to any unpleasant audio output, and the result is still immersive.

Solid durability

The Realme 16 Pro has a unique camera module but the overall design and feel is very premium. The smartphone is equally durable against dust and water with four IP ratings: IP66, IP68, IP69, and even IP69K. These are the highest IP ratings you can get on a smartphone, so rest assured the phone can withstand some tough water and dust exposure.

Reasons to skip the Realme 16 Pro

Underwhelming chipset

The Realme 16 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Max 5G, which delivered very modest benchmark scores for the segment, trailing some rivals. But everyday performance feels smooth across social media, messaging, multitasking, and casual gaming. It may not be a performance leader, but the phone remains a dependable daily driver.

No telephoto camera

The Realme 16 Pro’s dual-camera setup with a 200MP primary sensor and an 8MP ultra-wide lens do a good job for the most of it but when it comes to versatility, the phone is missing a telephoto lens. This means one would be missing out on getting better portraits and zoom shots. Smartphones like the Motorola Edge 60 Pro would be a better pick for photography enthusiasts.

Runs warmer than rivals

The Realme 16 Pro doesn’t show any noticeable performance issues but it does tend to get warmer than rivals, especially when gaming. This occurred while playing heavier titles like COD Mobile and BGMI, which run fine, but long sessions can cause noticeable heating.
