Honor has introduced a new concept device called the ‘Honor Robot Phone’. It’s not what you’re imagining, as the phone doesn’t look or function like a robot, but it actually has a pop-up AI camera with a gimbal and rotatable motor. The concept seems interesting as gimbals are a great tool for shooting videos, so it might be a big hit with content creators. Honor Robot Phone will be officially unveiled at MWC 2026, where we’ll get to know more about the concept device. Honor hasn’t revealed if or when the phone will be commercially available.

Honor Robot Phone: What makes it robotic?

According to the teaser video shared by Honor, its Robot Phone has a large camera module at the back, which houses a pop-up AI camera. This unique pop-up camera emerges from the rear unit fully housed with a gimbal and a rotatable motor, giving it robotic functionality. Based on the video, the pop-up camera works independently without any manual intervention to take photos or videos. Honor demonstrated examples of keeping the phone in your shirt pocket or on a surface, and the gimbal camera doing its own thing.

It looks like the AI camera will have other features too, like displaying information about what you’re wearing on the phone screen. It also appears to intelligently capture photos at the right angles without the need for any expertise. Based on these details, the Honor Robot Phone does seem very interesting and may not be gimmicky at all. With a gimbal, you can capture photos and videos without shakes or jitters, giving you a steady shot. The Honor Robot Phone gives you that flexibility without needing an additional accessory. Also, a built-in hidden pop-up camera might seem like the phone will be bulky, but the concept design doesn’t show any major protrusion.

The back also shows the Alpha symbol, which is expected to be used across Honor’s AI ecosystem products. The phone is likely to feature a triple-rear camera module, which incorporates the protective glass-covered pop-up AI unit. The Honor Robot Phone is positioned as a key component of the company’s emerging artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem. The company describes the device as a “revolutionary AI device” that combines advanced robotics with “next-generation imaging.”

Smartphone photography is going beyond camera sensors and AI features. Vivo launched the X300 series recently with the X300 Pro bundled with a dedicated photography kit. OPPO is also launching the Find X9 Pro with a Hasselblad photography kit. Realme has partnered with popular camera manufacturer Ricoh Imaging for the GT 8 Pro. OnePlus, on the other hand, has ended its relationship with Hasselblad, but it plans to use in-house technology for its cameras. There’s a lot to look forward to with smartphone photography, especially from the latest Android flagships.

For now, the Honor Robot Phone is a concept device, and we’ll have to wait for its reveal at MWC 2026 for more details. Since the phone’s functionality is unique, Honor could keep it under wraps for longer or keep the commercial launch limited to select markets.
