Roblox publishes India Economic Impact Report, reveals 76% CAGR in daily active users and Rs 123.9 crore GDP contribution between 2020 and 2025

Roblox held UNBOX ROBLOX to showcase its recent RDC 2026 announcements to Indian players, parents, creators, and partners. Alongside releasing its first India Economic Impact Report. Access Partnership prepared the report for Roblox, outlining the platform’s growth trajectory in India and making a case for the country as a significant creator economy opportunity.

The numbers behind India’s Roblox growth

India has supposedly over 500 million gamers, making it the world’s second-largest gaming population, and the country’s video game industry is on track to grow from Rs 6,300 crore in 2025 to Rs 9,200 crore by 2028, a 13% annual growth rate compared to 5.1% globally, as per the Roblox Economic Impact report. Against that backdrop, Roblox’s India daily active users grew at a 76% compound annual rate between 2020 and 2025.

As per the report, the creator side of that growth is even more pronounced. The number of Indian creators eligible for Roblox payouts grew at a 96% compound annual rate over the same period, reaching more than 250 in 2025, while total payouts grew at 72% annually. Among surveyed Indian creators who publish on multiple platforms, Roblox accounts for 61% of their total creation revenue, suggesting the platform serves as a primary channel rather than a secondary one for most active Indian creators.

Accessibility as a driver

The report highlights that 94% of surveyed Indian creators say they can build on Roblox with minimal prior experience, and 91% say the platform’s development tools genuinely help them learn. Community-led learning dominates as the entry pathway:

  • 65% first learned through the Roblox community
  • 62% through YouTube tutorials, showing that formal game development education is not a prerequisite for entry

Indian creators reaching global audiences

Among surveyed creators, 92% say Roblox helps their games reach international users. Overseas users account for an average of 52% of daily active users on their games and 55% of their revenue, with the United States, United Kingdom, and Japan leading as export markets. Indian creators are not primarily serving a domestic audience. They are building games for global players while operating out of India.

Two creator case studies illustrate the scale of what is possible. Zankhit Chawda founded Small World Games as a self-funded studio in Bengaluru, growing it from a spare bedroom to a team of around 20 people. The studio’s titles include Death Ball with over 1.6 billion visits and Racket Rivals with over 560 million visits.

New Delhi entrepreneur Arjun Goel built Meta Fashion after teaching himself 3D design during the COVID-19 lockdown, despite coming from a theatrical rather than coding background. His digital fashion business has sold over 2.5 million items, built a community of over 25,000 members, and now employs five full-time staff alongside freelance artists.

Career pathways

91% of surveyed Indian creators say their Roblox work helped them secure external job offers, freelance projects, or business opportunities. The report profiles 19-year-old Hriday Agrawal, who started creating on Roblox while at school and now combines international freelance work with an Integrated Design and Media degree at New York University. His games have accumulated over 1.5 billion combined visits, showing how platform experience can translate into a portfolio, client relationships, and transferable skills.

Economic contribution

The report also highlights Access Partnership estimates that Roblox creator activity contributed Rs 123.9 crore to India’s GDP cumulatively between 2020 and 2025 and supported approximately 510 full-time equivalent jobs across the economy in 2025. These figures reflect the current state of a still-early platform ecosystem in India. Given the user and creator growth rates, the economic contribution is likely to grow significantly in the years ahead.
