Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G 12GB RAM Expert Review Summary
Expert Rating:
![Dhruv Joshi]()
Verdict
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max offers unmatched battery life, a good display and a durable build, but its high price makes the compromises hard to overlook. The cameras and performance both fall behind some rivals, making it difficult to recommend at full price. If battery life is your top priority, it remains an option worth considering.
Pros
- Easy two days of battery life
- Big, vibrant AMOLED display
- Great durability
- Decent software support
Cons
- The phone is underpowered
- Cameras are not as good as rivals
- High price
Design: tough with a cool factor
+
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max is comfortable enough despite its 229-gram weight, but the black variant is rather plain for me. The Secret Sunrise is a much more interesting finish that adds character to the device. You also get great IP ratings and Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which makes the phone extremely durable.

Battery: no less than a power bank
+
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max's 10,000mAh battery delivers exceptional endurance, with a record 24-hour PCMark battery benchmark score and up to two days of real-world use. The 100W charger takes around 77 minutes to fully charge it, while 27W reverse charging is a great add-on to charge your accessories.

Display: great visuals, but I'd like it to be brighter
+
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max has a vibrant 1.5K AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support, making it well suited for gaming and content. However, it falls behind some rivals in brightness and speaker output, while the 400 per cent audio boost can distort sound.

Cameras: good enough stills, not much else
+
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max's primary camera takes good daylight shots with likeable colours, but the 8MP ultrawide and portrait shots can lack detail. So, the overall setup falls short at this price. Some rivals offer better hardware and more detailed results at a similar price.

Performance and software: could have been better
+
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max handles everyday tasks without much trouble, but its performance is among the weaker aspects of the phone. The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max promises four years of OS updates and six years of security support, which is decent. The device performs sufficiently for everyday use, but demanding games and heavier workloads expose the hardware's limitations.

Competition: a lot of good options
+
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max finds itself in a very competitive segment, with plenty of phones offering a different take on what a good device at this price should be.
