Good alternative to Android phones mostly for geeks

Its a good phone catching up fast. It has Android emulated environment which allows you to get Android Apps. Missing PlayStore can be problem but its possible to install Playstore. Community is good. If you are not a geek then don't go for this phone.

Awesome Jolla

The Jolla is an awesome buy. It is apparent that the phone has been built with a lot of care and it has great looks. The size is quite comfortable to fit into one's pocket, hand, etc. As regards the software, it's very smooth while running apps and no delay has been observed. Pros : Touch screen works great. Clear display. Apps load really fast. The OS is very good. Cons : More Native apps for Indian customers needed. Especially banking, travel related apps.

Excellent GeekNerd Phone N9 successor

Hi All, I am using this phone for more than 8 months. I am a fan of the Meego OS of Nokia N9. This phone is released by Jolla as a developer/reference device similar to what Google does with Nexus program. I use this phone as a secondary device to my Honor 3c phone. Android Support on Sailfish OS is getting better since launch. Also updates to Sailfish OS are rolled out every 1-2 months eventhough Jolla is a small startup with only 70 employees. Currently am using v1.1.4.29 of Sailfish. Please buy this phone if u want to playaround with a Mobile Linux based OS and Qt framework. Hoping for Sailfish OS version 2.0 to impress vendors into making handsets. Pros: Open source Linux OS Gesture based OS, no back/home buttons Qt framework front-end Good Android Support Cons: Lack of Native Apps Screen resolution is not good No accessories Too much dependence on Android apps

Very Good. But Sailfish needs to mature a bit more

This is a very good phone. The UI look and feel are refreshingly different. comes with bare minimum apps. So no unwanted bloatware. The UI is very smooth. Some handy tricks that Android should borrow. But the Sailfish OS needs to matrure a bit more. A few things need polishing (eg. the call log) The ecosystem is, again, basic. Although Andoid apps can be installed, performace of the Android apps is not as good as native apps. The phone would become as sluggish as any comparable phone, say Moto G (1 gen)
