Verdict

The ASUS X553MA-XX515D is a low range entry level gadget which is good only for simple activities. It does impress with some powerful secondary features like high speed optical drive, advanced USB port and a reliable battery.

Display and Build

The ASUS X553MA-XX515D features a 15.6-inch HD TFT Colour LED backlit display offering a native resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels. The simply designed black coloured outfit has a thick waist (36.5mm to be precise) and tips the scale at 2.1kg. The input functions are conducted by a multi touch gesture supported touchpad and a standard keyboard.

Processor and Platform

Doing the duty under the hood is a 4th generation Intel Pentium dual-core N3540 processor clocked at 2.1GHz. It is assisted by a paltry 2GB DDR3 RAM which is nothing surprising in this price range. It also has two unused DIMM ports allowing you to expand the RAM's capacity up to 4GB. It manages rich movies and games with the inbuilt Intel HD GPU. It is devoid of any preloaded OS.

Camera, Storage and Multimedia

The ASUS X553MA-XX515D has been spotted with a webcam embedded in the bezel above the display. For storage purposes, the device carries a Serial-ATA HDD of 500GB. It also has a SuperMulti DVD Drive so that you can stream data from disks easily. The stereo speakers powered by ASUS SonicMaster technology provide crisp and imposing sound.

Battery and Connectivity

Fuelled by a 2 cell Li-ion battery, the ASUS X553MA-XX515D promises to deliver uninterrupted service for up to 4.5 hours. On the connectivity front, the laptop supports Ethernet port, digital media reader, VGA port, one USB 3.0 port, one USB 2.0 port, HDMI out, WLAN and Bluetooth v4.0.
