Verdict

The Blackberry DTEK50 is a great handset for the ones who prefer a slim body device with flash in both end panels. The performance of the device is very good, be it games, apps, multitasking etc. Other key points of this handset are ample expandable memory and quick charging support. However, the price tag seems to fall a little higher, as one can atleast expect a fingerprint sensor in this budget.

BlackBerry DTEK50 review: Android`s customisability meets enterprise-level security

The BlackBerry DTEK50 puts emphasis on security. But can it compete against the Xiaomi Mi 5 and ASUS ZenFone 3. We find out in our review.

Dec 08 2016 By Nitansh Rastogi
PROS
  • Ergonomic and durable build
  • Impressive display
  • Decent camera quality
  • Security features
CONS
  • Heats up quickly
  • Poor battery life
  • No fingerprint sensor
Verdict

To summarise, the BlackBerry DTEK50 generates mixed feelings. It could have been the Canadian giant`s masterstroke – combining the flexibility of Android with its security prowess, that too at a mid-tier price point. Adding to its troubles is the cut-throat competition in this price bracket. When it comes to compact options in the same price bracket, the ASUS ZenFone 3 (review), Xiaomi Mi 5 (review), and ZUK Z2 Plus (review) are powerful devices. If you don’t mind phablets, then the LeEco Le Max2 (review) is a steal deal offering the flagship-grade Snapdragon 820 under Rs 20,000.The BlackBerry DTEK50 is a decent smartphone, but isn’t meant for everyone. BlackBerry loyalists will miss the comfort of typing on QWERTY keypads, and while the inclusion of Android OS is enticing, there are some trade-offs like heating issues and poor battery life, making its case more difficult. However, if you are someone who values security and want a phone for one-hand use, then the DTEK50 could be worth a second look.

Both the phones have their pros and cons, I think you should go for HTC Desire 10 Pro.

HTC Desire 10 Pro has the following advantages over Blackberry DTEK50: -

    1. HTC Desire 10 Pro has 5.5" display size while Blackberry DTEK50 has 5.2" display size.

    2. HTC Desire 10 Pro has 64GB Storage Capacity while Blackberry DTEK50 has 16GB storage Capacity.

    3. The display of HTC Desire 10 Pro is Full HD while Blackberry DTEK50 has an HD screen, would matter when viewing high-quality movies or playing HD games.

It is not like that it is a one sided game, Blackberry DTEK50 has the following advantages -

    1. Redmi Note 4 has 4100mAh Battery while Samsung Galaxy On Max has 3300mAh battery.

    2. The thickness of Blackberry DTEK50 is 7.4 mm while Samsung Galaxy On Max has 7.8 mm Thickness.

Verdict - In my opinion, HTC Desire 10 Pro is a better phone in overall performance but if you need a phone with good front camera for taking selfies, you can go for Blackberry DTEK50.

I don't think DTEK50 would be better than Zenfone 3. Specifications are not as good as Zenfone 3. Data security and data management might be better in DTEK50 due to it's DTEK app. Zenfone 3 might be better at overall performance. Blackberry lovers might like it.
