Rotten TomatoesAbbott Elementary is a mockumentary that satire fans will love. Filled with witty humour and hilarious sequences throughout, Abbott Elementary is subtle. It doesn't have big satire setups or forced comedy, but rather the runtime is filled with scenes that brighten up your smile every few minutes. The series deals with heavy issues, while also managing them quite seamlessly. This sort of balancing act is what makes this show shine even more, when you begin to appreciate the writing that goes behind it. The highlight of the show, however, is the addition of a lot of referential dialogues and some unexpected gags that make it all the more appealing, thanks to the surprise element. It would be fair to say that they don't make them like these anymore, and you should watch Abbott Elementary whenever you get the chance to do that.

During a February 2022 interview with Terry Gross on the National Public Radio program "Fresh Air (1975)," Quinta Brunson said that when the show was an unexpected ratings and critics' hit right away, she and the rest of the producers decided to take some of the money that had been budgeted for advertising and other marketing and use it instead to buy supplies for real teachers.
Quinta Brunson based the series on her mother's experiences as an elementary school teacher in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
On May 25, 2022, Quinta Brunson refused to make a school shooting episode of Abbott Elementary because "People are that deeply removed from demanding more of the politicians they elected and are instead demanding entertainment."
Zack Fox, who plays the wannabe rapper Tariq, is a successful comedic rapper in real life.
Abbott Elementary is named after Joyce Abbott, one of Brunson's elementary school teachers.
