Tig Notaro and Stephanie Allynne (Kate) are married in real life and have two kids.
Stephanie Allynne (Kate) was originally only going to write, but as the character based on her continued to develop, she was encouraged by the production team to act in the show.
Season 2 further develops the complicated relationship between Tig and Kate, which according to Tig Notaro, was heavily inspired by the real-life relationship between her and writer/actress Stephanie Allynne.
When asked about her onscreen family, Tig Notaro said that her real stepfather is more approachable and has a sense of humor.
When asked about the show' true-to-life elements, Tig Notaro stated that the pilot was "85 percent factual." The show became more fictionalized as the episodes progressed, but the writers would frequently reflect on experiences from their own lives to be incorporated into the scripts.
