The movie was originally titled (and marketed worldwide as) The Philosophers, until it was rebranded in December of 2013 as After The Dark, in an announcement for its then-upcoming release in North America in early 2014.On December 20th, 2013, a new movie poster with the new title was published on social media.
The play that the students perform in the bunker during the third iteration is William Shakespeare's 'Othello'. The movie shows an excerpt of three lines from Act 5, Scene 2, in which Desdemona dies at the hands of her estranged husband Othello after he has been tricked by his advisor Iago into believing that she's an adulteress.
Freddie Stroma and Bonnie Wright both worked in the Harry Potter franchise. Stroma played Cormac McLaggen and Wright played Ginny Weasley.
