The production filmed on location on glaciers mostly in Iceland, some in Greenland, and relied minimally on CGI. In casting actor Joe Cole as Mikkelsen's very green companion Iver Iversen, the filmmakers warned the actor that the conditions would be harsh and comforts minimal.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau's wife, Nukâka is from Greenland.
Actors Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Charles Dance reunited. Both previously starred together as son and father (Jaime and Tywin Lannister) in the hit television series, Game of Thrones (2011).
The first international production to actually hire a Greenland-based production service company, and not just bring in a foreign workforce. Thanks to the Polarama Greenland several production oriented jobs ranging from location managers, BTS filming, UPM and local producers were hired for the scenes filmed on location in Greenland.
This is the first Netflix original film from Iceland.
