TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Dame Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton's then-wife, wanted to play Anne Boleyn. At 37, she was rejected as too old.

Dame Elizabeth Taylor was present at the shooting of the final Tower of London scene, out of fear that her husband, Richard Burton, and his co-star, Geneviève Bujold, were having an affair. Before she began filming the scene, a furious Bujold told director Charles Jarrott, "I'm going to give that bitch an acting lesson she'll never forget!"

Richard Burton hated both the movie and his performance, and was amazed when he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.

The publication of Richard Burton's diaries about 30 years after his death made it very clear that he hated Geneviève Bujold, regarding her as untalented and pretentious.

Dame Elizabeth Taylor was paid $46 to appear in a cameo role as a masked courtesan. She really appeared in the movie to keep an eye on her husband, Richard Burton, and Geneviève Bujold, as she suspected they were having an affair. There was much speculation about such an affair, but the truth of it is still unknown.

Popular Dialogues

"King Henry VIII: You whore! Anne: But Elizabeth was yours. Watch her as she grows; she's yours. She's a Tudor! Get yourself a son off of that sweet, pale girl if you can - and hope that it will live! But Elizabeth shall reign *after* you. Yes! Elizabeth - child of Anne the Whore and Henry the Blood-Stained Lecher - shall be Queen! King Henry VIII: You've asked for death and you shall have it. Anne: So be it. Only what I take to my grave, you take to yours. And think of this, Henry: Elizabeth shall be a greater Queen than any King of yours. She shall rule a greater England than you could ever have built! Yes - *my* Elizabeth shall be Queen. And my blood will have been well spent!"

"Anne: For six years, this year, and this, and this, and this, I did not love him. And then I did. Then I was his. I can count the days I was his in hundreds. [picks up day counter] Anne: . The days we bedded. Married. Were Happy. Bore Elizabeth. Hated. Lusted. Bore a dead child... which condemned me... to death. In all one thousand days. Just a thousand. strange. And of those thousand, one when we were both in love, only one, when our loves met and overlapped and were both mine and his. And when I no longer hated him, he began to hate me. Except for that one day."
