STORY

Story
Logan Cates (Rory Calhoun) sets out to rescue a white woman captured by Apache Indians and prevent a war. On the way he is joined by a few civilians and a small band of soldiers at a water hole. They are ambushed and laid siege to by Apache. As their food and water supplies dwindle a storm arrives which enables Cates to put an escape plan into action.

Has the dubious distinction of three of its leading cast members dying prematurely: Tom Pittman died aged 26, Carolyn Craig at age 36, and Barbara Bates at age 43. Pittman was killed in a car crash, whilst Craig and Bates both committed suicide.

The book this was based on is "Last Stand at Papago Wells: A Novel" by Louis L'Amour

The theme from 3:10 to Yuma (1957) is used as a background in some of the quieter conversation scenes between the hero and one of the leading ladies and in the closing scene.

Frank DeKova, who plays the Indian Lugo, would soon become famous for the role of another Indian--Chief Wild Eagle in F Troop (1965).
