IMDbThroughout the movie, Frankie Avalon's character is only referred to as "The Big Kahuna", and never once is called by any real first name. He is listed as "Annette's Husband" in the end credits. The name "Frankie" could not legally be used in the film, because Avalon played "Frankie" in several 1960s beach movies. Legal issues were involved since this film was made by a different studio and with different producers. For the same reason, Annette Funicello's character could not be named Delores, or Dee Dee for short, as was her character's name in the Beach Party films. "The Big Kahuna" was actually a character from Gidget (1959), rather than from the Beach Party series.
Legendary guitarists Dick Dale and Stevie Ray Vaughan appear in a scene, performing the song "Pipeline" by The Chantays. Dale is known as The King Of The Surf Guitar, and "Pipeline" is a frequently-covered surf rock instrumental.
Annette Funicello 's last feature film in which she technically played a fictional character. She would go on to appear in two other films in which she played herself.
After filming was completed, Annette Funicello was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. During filming, as a result of fatigue from long hours shooting the film, she had noticed an increase in the frequency and severity of minor MS symptoms that she had experienced off-and-on for several years. She requested that her husband tell no one on the set.
Bob Denver's last film, though he did appear in guest roles in eight TV shows after this, mostly playing himself or Gilligan.
"Annette: I've always sort of wanted to be the bad girl... Connie: Impossible. But I'll tell you something. You sure have wasted an incredible pair of hooters."
"Skipper Jonas Grumby: We've got to shove off, little buddy. Willy Gilligan: Oh no, not you! Not now! Skipper Jonas Grumby: I'm sorry. It's time to go. We'll be back real soon; it's only a three-hour tour. Willy Gilligan: It's *NEVER* a three-hour tour!"
