The series centers on Lonnie 'The Hawk' Hawkins, a spectacularly delusional, washed-up golf legend who peaked in 2004 as the world's No. 1 golfer. More than twenty years later, Lonnie is a relic of the fairway with shot knees and no sponsors. Despite this, he remains convinced he is one perfect stroke away from the greatest comeback in sports history, as he desperately campaigns to re-enter the PGA Tour to win a final major.

Comedian Ramy Youssef was originally a co-creator but exited the project in August 2025 due to creative differences.
The PGA Tour is an official partner of the series, allowing for the use of real courses and branding.
Production was briefly paused in November 2025 after Will Ferrell sustained a minor, non-serious injury on set.
