Off-screen, while taking a break from filming and still in costume, Robert De Niro attempted to enter The Greenwich hotel, which he co-owns. Security did not recognize De Niro, turned him away, and would not let him in.
The title of Nick Flynn's memoir, "Another Bullshit Night in Suck City", was never considered for the film due to the profanity. "Welcome to Suck City" was used during production, but according to Flynn, the audience of a Paramus, New Jersey test screening unanimously rejected it, saying they would never go see a movie with that title. Various other titles were considered, including "Another Night", before "Being Flynn" was chosen.
Kelly McCreary's debut.
Aspects of irony; movie shows several homeless people. This was brought to 'The Rose Theatre' site through its Trailer and other projects during pre-release PR, by Robert De Niro ironic as back in 1988+ several volunteers from public slept-rough for month's to protect the very historic Shakespearian remains from development there. The lead was supportive visitor to special event(s) there including The London Programme: Saving the Rose Theatre (1989). Scene's are of parallel experience for some of those volunteers. Dramatic performance arts pupils are taught to express such extremes of lifestyles as mutual scene's in Fame (1980) show as preparation for both plays of Shakespeare and especially Dickensian drama.
Kelly McCreary is of Scottish ancestry.
"Jonathan Flynn: [to Nick] Destiny has brought us together for one fleeting moment. Let's not spit in its eye."
"Nick Flynn: Some part of me knew he would show up someday. If I stayed in one place long enough, he would find me, like you are taught to do when you are lost. But what do you do if both of you are lost and you both end up in the same place, waiting?"
