TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Wrestling legend Roddy Piper described this film as "The best documentary ever made on professional wrestling."

Darren Aronofsky reportedly got the idea for The Wrestler (2008) after watching this documentary. Randy the Ram was based partly on Jake the Snake Roberts.

Vince McMahon was reportedly upset when neither he nor his company received any compensation after the film's success at the box office, as he had been led to believe that it was a non-commercial independent film. McMahon subsequently refused to promote the movie, even going so far as to ban the film's trailers from airing during commercial breaks of his WWE Raw (1993) broadcasts.

Former WWF mid card wrestler Koko B. Ware is briefly featured in the movie. In his scene he speaks about letting his trademark mascot, a bird named Frankie "fly away." Sadly, three years after the completion of this film, Frankie perished when the apartment building Koko was living in burnt to the ground.

Barry W. Blaustein wanted to feature Adam Copeland aka Edge in the film. But Copeland was uncomfortable with being in it. Matt Bloom was also considered. Blaustein chose Darren Drozdov because he was the most comfortable on-camera.

Popular Dialogues

"Jake Roberts: My mother was 13 years old when I was born. Why? Because my dad raped a little girl that was in a room asleep. My dad was going out with my mother's mother. There you go. There's some bones for Jake the Snake."

"Paul Heyman: Tonight, we have a chance to say, 'Yeah, you're right. We're too extreme. We're too wild. We're too out of control. We're too full of our own shit.' Or we have a chance to say, 'Hey, fuck you, you're wrong! Fuck you, we're right!' Because you have all made it to the dance. 'Cause believe me, this is the dance!"
