Despite top billing in the credits , Akshay does not enter the scene till the first hour is complete.
Director Priyadarshan worked as the second-unit director of the original movie Manichithrathazhu (1993), when he decided to remake the story in Hindi. Akshay Kumar was his first choice to play the male lead role, as was classical dance-trained Malayalam actor Vineet for the role of Shashidhar.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Katrina Kaif were the original choices for the roles of Avni and Radha respectively.
The song Hare Ram was added in the film weeks after it's release due to its popularity. Earlier it was only part of the film's promotion and shown in the end credits.
In real life, Vidya Balan's husband's name is Siddharth.
